Locked on Panthers: The good, the bad, and the ugly: Chris Tabor not considering sitting Bryce

In the first 10 minutes, he talks about if Tabor should have the authority to bench Young or not. He is of the opinion that Tabor shouldn't have the say since he shouldn't be brought back and that it is too late to bench Young. He also brings up the possibility of Tepper forcing the next coach to bring Tabor back since Tabor is a favorite of Tepper. That to me is the scary part.

They have had many opportunities to bench Bryce. I think Tepper was nervous they may actually win some games and it would tank Bryce's confidence, not that it hasn't already been tanked. At this point, only 4 games left, just let him finish the season and put something, anything on the field that shows potential or growth going into next season.

That's pretty much what Julian says.

Tabor looks like a yes man. The fact he took the interim position should seriously raise the questions about his mental abilities and motivations given the ugly behind the scenes going on in that building.

I just wonder if he realized his mistake yet or if he is just that dumb. Looking at his coaching philosophies I am leaning towards dumb

Surely it came with an increase in pay. I mean, if you're stuck in this ship for the time being might as well bang as many of Tepper's dollars as you can.

Unless his plan is to get fired and collect that money while somewhere else it can't possibly be worth it. It looks like career suicide. Fank was prepared for retirement when he took the job so that makes sense.

Seriously who is going to want to work with the guy given the entire situation? IDK but I wouldn't bet on him getting a great next job or the new HC being happy with having to keep the guy either.

This is the answer to any Tabor question. Dude was free for Rhule to hire and took the job. Same for the Oline coach. Then Reich was urged to retain both, which he did. That to me says they care more about the the money and sucking up to the owner than actually doing a good job.

If the standard for being able to bench Young is that you're going to be back next season, I'm not sure anybody has that authority 😕

As far as who I would leave the decision up to, probably Jim Caldwell.

I don't think Young should be benched. At this point, just leave him out there. If it "breaks" him, maybe he'll do like Collins did once upon a time and quit.

WTF do people want Young benched? We aren’t a contender so WTF do we care if we go 1-16 or 4-13? We learn nothing from Dalton starting.

Let Young finish the year and honestly, start 2024. We have pick 33. The chance of us getting a long term QB starter in the 2024 draft is minuscule. We aren’t that lucky.

If you don’t believe in Young, you want him starting. If he can’t do the job, well after a second year the new coach and GM have the ammo to say QB in 2025. Thanks Young for getting us a top 3 pick, you’re the backup.

I don't see the point of continuing this. How is continuing this better than outting Daltonin and trying to string together a little momentum?

Is Bryce confidently getting worse?

What more do you really need to learn about Young this season? He has already proven what he is and regardless he is here next year to compete or be given the job again.

Why not focus on trying to build up other players and not having the bust of a QB keep the entire offense from any legitimate chance to improve the last few weeks?

The most productive the Panther offense has been was the 37-27 loss to Seattle. Oh yeah, Dalton played that game. Oh yeah, that was Week 3.

The Panthers and Bryce Young haven't come close to matching the relative success of that game, yet Bryce Young is still trotting out there every week. This leads me to ask a simple question:

Is it the goal of the Panthers to attempt to develop a QB with limited athletic and physical talent or, is it the goal of the team to win games. Because, if we're being honest and going back to the words of both John Fox and Ron Rivera, who gives the team the best opportunity to win?

    • He is a QB, on a rookie deal and Cousins is old coming off an achilles injury. Which QB they got is the part that is highly debatable if it was good. Yeah they could have used that on more tallent but Cousins doesn't win in the postseason so it wouldn't matter anyways. Chances are good they take the NFCS regardless this year or it goes back to a Bucs team that just breaks .500.
