The Carolina Panthers have reached an agreement with former Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Ed Johnson to bolster depth along their defensive line, a source told ESPN.com's John Clayton.

The 6-foot-2, 296-pound Johnson was an undrafted success story who started 16 games as a rookie in Indianapolis in 2007. He was released by the Colts in 2008 but re-signed in 2009 and started four games before the 26-year-old was released again.

I don't think this means we're cutting Kemo or Lewis, just that Hayden is on his way out.

Hopefully but Fox and company drafted Hayden. Plus as much as we all know he sucks he is younger than both of them, and I heard somewhere (probably on this board) that Kemo's tendon didn't quite right.... Let's just hope your right and I'm wrong

they're not going to get all sentimental over a 6th rounder. Hayden has BEEN gone since the end of the season.

A feeble kemo or old lewis is 10 times better than hayden.

Assuming Hayden is going to get cut, we still have 6 DTs. I dont think Kemo's chances of coming back are that great.

I still think either Thomas or Kemo will be back.

Even with the other DT's on the roster, outside Kemo and Thomas, we do not have that Big Fat Guy. We need that Big Fat Guy...as evidenced to how bad our run defense was before Thomas...and how much it immediately improved after bringing him in.

I think Kemo is done here regardless of this move, we owe him too much $ for the value he provides to us and we have to make some space at DT.

You need to have a solid rotation at DT in this day and age of the NFL, and that means you need depth, that's what this move is all about. Ed Johnson is a Meeks guy, fits into Meeks scheme, this move demonstrates the influence Meeks has over the defensive personnel.

    • It's not sustainable,  although he deserve credit for the win also, as he made clutch plays as he does with every win we have.
    • As much as I would love to sit here and bash on Young.  I can't.   He is absolutely a part of this team winning.  He is the cool hand leading the offense along with the hammer, Rico.  He's making plays on 3rd and 4th downs, that are absolutely helping thus team win.  Is Bryce playing as well as we'd like? Nope. Although he had only 1 week off from a high ankle sprain.   No question he was 100% in the Greenbay game.  I'm not even sure where the team would find a clear upgrade over Byrce.  He is a leader.  In the 4th quarter, he has ice in his veins.  He is a part of why our team is enjoyable to watch again.  Without him, we wouldn't be winning.    Anyways.  Y'all enjoy yet another thread designed to tear down the man.
    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
