Per Schefter: Tepper has hired a search firm to help find HC

Schefter’s report confirmed by Joe Person.

Tepper apparently used this same firm to hire the Charlotte FC coach and they’ve also helped the Rams, 49ers and Atlanta in recent years with their hires. He also confirms that Dan Morgan will be apart of the transition regardless of what happens with Fitterer (which reads to me like he’s gone).

(Can somebody help me figure out how to embed tweets? They used to auto embed for me but they aren’t anymore)

That does sound like Fitterer is gone...

Just because Dan Morgan worked with Fitterer, doesn’t mean he would be Fitterer again.

I want a clean slate too, but for all we know, Morgan may end up being a good GM; here or elsewhere.

“Internal support” is so vague. Could just be people trying to save their jobs. Could be people who saw Morgan making a lot of sense in team meetings.

Someone mentioned this before, but if Morgan is the type to stand up to Tepper when needed…that’s a requirement if we are going to have any success. Impossible to say if that is true though. I’d be shocked if a strong GM is hired.

Yep, same jackasses were talking poo about Brandon Beane when he was interim because he was under Hurney... and he was one of the best fuging GM's in the league. fug this board sometimes man.

And Morgan is from the Brandon Beane tree.

Quoting Dianna Russini...

That, combined with the part about how Tepper has a strong personal affinity for Fitterer makes me think he still could stick around in a non-personnel role.

Russini says though that it is also possible he could be let go, so I guess we'll see

For those who don't want to click the X link to see the article:

CAROLINA PANTERS: Panthers owner David Tepper already has fired head coach Frank Reich and some of his assistant coaches. Many now expect that general manager Scott Fitterer will be next, according to league sources.

Tepper has retained a search firm to help him guide his franchise for the future. Should he fire Fitterer, Tepper then would have a clean slate to offer a prospective head coach and GM, though Panthers assistant GM Dan Morgan also has support within the organization, according to sources.

Whoever takes over, this team does have issues it must overcome. Carolina traded its 2024 first-round draft pick -- which became the No. 1 overall selection -- to the Chicago Bears last year to be able to draft Bryce Young, who has endured a difficult rookie season.

The Panthers are missing other offensive playmakers and have a shaky offensive line that they need to restore and rebuild. Tepper is ready and willing to spend, but there are major holes and concerns to address.

Wording is a lil different from the OP. "retained a search firm?" So it's the same one from last year that got us Frank Reich?

In this context “retained” means hired. I don’t believe they were involved last year. It’s common for certain professions to be retained for services.

So do we consider this progress?  Is Tepp realizing the working his ways and letting go?

Maybe, as long as he doesn't pick the wrong people again.

He has access to one of the best football minds in the league. Why not just use him instead of going to a search firm?

It is definite progress, but if he keeps fitt it won't make too much difference in results IMO.

Depends on the role.

If it's unrelated to personnel, I don't really have a problem with that organizationally.

Now that said, the fact that he was involved in undermining the previous coach is a big deal. With that in mind, it's better that he be gone entirely.

If that's not going to happen though, then a non-personnel related role is the best option.

(that's what a lot of us used to hope Jerry Richardson would do with Marty Hurney since he was so determined to keep him)

    • You can't say that with any certainty at all. Bryce played the worst football of any rookie ever. His mechanics and footwork have nothing to do with Frank, DC or anyone else. All those ints and fumbles, yep, those are Bryce too.  Bryce and Stroud are 2 different QBs. Just because Bryce had one complete game in year 3 vs Atlanta doesnt mean he could have led a team to the playoffs his rookie year.
    • I added a question mark to your question. Also bolded it to look prettier.
    • I don't understand the tone, I gave you my ranking, that's it.  And yes, I still view Lawrence and Kyler are still ahead, in my opinion, which doesn't really mean much lol.  What's this have to do with being a fan ffs? I will say, they are at the end of the list/the more arguable/debatable guys.  So open to debate but it seems you're going straight to the "you're not a fan" debate.  Which is super annoying. Maybe I'd agree Bryce could be ~19-20 on the list if the argument was laid out instead.  His Atlanta game was better than anything they have done in recent memory, but he's had like 10 other games this season.   He is way more inconsistent in my view, due to a few factors... Shotty footwork - he has a shallow lazy step back from gun that puts an OL in an impossible place.  Goes on his toes wayyy to much more my liking. Poor upper body mechanics.  His upper body remains parallel to the LOS and has to perform that rapid twitch/turn motion to get in stance His shallow drops also create a lack of sight lines so he can't layer throws well He's had poor pocket presence - not last week, but it's been a thing   Pure traits standpoint Arm strength is mediocre Mobility is mediocre - can outrun at times but quicker IDLs can catch him Accuracy is a range due to his inconsistency - can be above average to very poor.  His career so far has been pretty bad with intermediates (which again was not the case against ATL) Ball Security Way too sensitive to fumbling Has exhibited very poor decision making, especially in first halves that put the team behind This all does NOT take away that he had a GREAT performance against ATL.  He was able to extend plays, found guys post-route in stride, the XL throw in Q3 was fantastic, a few of the Coker crossers were beauts.  There's no disputing that.   But yeah, in totality, it hasn't looked good but he absolutely cooked last week. Outside of that, he's only had 5 other 250 yard passing games in his entire career.  He stalls on drives, makes annoying turnovers, doesn't see the right guys.  It's okay to both say that and the fact that he balled tf out last week.  I hope he continues so we get better and maybe can make some noise.  Big test on Monday.
