NFL Coach/GM Updates

Recommended Posts

I think it's very unlikely we hire a better coach than Vrabel. The only problem is it sounds like he kind of wanted out of Tennessee because they're totally tearing it down (which makes sense). What he would be working with here is also a complete and total rebuild. But it is kind of tough to find his landing spot now that NE is out of the question. I've heard Vegas but their players badly want AP.

Vrabel 2 straight losing seasons.

Either you're high on Vrabel or you fail to recognize he's not the best coach on the market. Which one is it?

He is the best coach on the market in years you are kidding yourself.

I guess if Harbaugh left michigan he would surpass vrabel but that hasnt happened.  Vrabel has a high floor and really high ceiling.

He's had Mariota and Tannehill for the last 6 years. He's not exactly been rich with talent outside of Derrick Henry.

Apparently he never had much control/input on personnel decisions and is looking for a landing spot where he can be more involved. So him coming here would hinge a lot on our GM decision (which may be why the coach first, GM second approach is in play).

Yeah but we didnt even request one to my knowledge.  His pedigree is impeccable

They interviewed him last cycle. Probably knew it was a non-starter and saved themselves the negative press of having him decline an interview.

You tend to have losing seasons when the gm and coach are not lock step together.  And this appears to be exactly what happened.  He is a bit old school and loves the old school running game but he is a culture builder and his defense always seems to ball out

It would be nuts to not even talk to him.  Same with harbaugh.  Tepper and crew need to pick as many top notch nfl coaches brain about our situation and  young.  I think guys like MV and JH are not going to sugarcoat poo

No coach has done more with less. That's a brutal roster he was working with and one where it's clear he didn't have much personnel control over. He was visibly furious when they traded AJB on draft night.

    • I interpreted your original reply as the team could have success if the new players and coaches were really good, AND they created an offense that didn't count on the QB being a primary contributor. Because you think Bryce won't be able to hold up his end. I think you confirm that above. My only point is that I don't see how anyone can say definitively what Bryce Young will be in the league yet, based on his supporting cast from last season. And it seems those that have already decided that Bryce Young is a bust, likely just didn't like him as the pick in the first place. A little context for me... lots of folk here didn't like Cam while he was a Panther either. It had very little to do with him as a talent. And just for the record, I really am not invested in Bryce Young. I didn't want the team to move up for a QB at all in 2023. I thought 2024 would be the year to go for a QB. But when they did, I ordered the QBs as Anthony Richardson, then CJ, then Bryce. The disfunction from the front office, to the playcalling, to the scheme, to the oline and the receivers was just not a good situation. Horrible actually. Asking a rookie to perform with all that adversity is just not realistic to me, at any position let alone QB. So to me, the verdict is still out. I don't know if he can be the guy because the situation he was in last year was set up to fail from the start. In preseason, as soon as I saw the oline couldn't figure out how to even slow down the Jets' pass rush (particularly stunts) and the receivers were locked up like Fort Knox, I knew we were in for a long season.
    • I bet one would. But I hear you and hope he can control himself.
    • It's a different vibe for sure. He sounds like he knows what he's talking about and his general plan---that which he tells the world---sounds like a working plan. Reich didn't seem to have a plan, and Rhule's plan was ill-suited for grown men. Reich coached like a zombie---just dead and uninspiring. Rhule thought that he could take his college guys and dominate in the pros, smiled in guys faces and threw them under the bus. His brand of motivation has plays running to a DBO sign. Canales seems to be schooled in motivation, but also believes the stuff he is selling down to his core. We'll see if it holds up.
