So he did that to fool the Panthers into drafting him 1st overall? How dumb to you think these nfl folks are anyway? If anything, that was a reason NOT to take him at all.  Sheesh you guys will find anything to blame him with for being taken 1st overall. You can blame the Panthers for that.

Not necessarily to get drafted number 1, but to improve his draft position, most definitely. Being taken top 3 in the draft comes with a pretty nice guaranteed check vs where Will Levis was taken at the top of the 2nd. I don’t think NFL folks are necessarily dumb, but they can get sucked into the hype of the newest test that guarantees success. Now Dave and Nicole Tepper? I think they’re blithering idiots when it comes to evaluating football players, but he was heavily involved in the trade up and the selection.

So how do you explain putting on 15 lbs before the combine? What’s the purpose if not to try and alter the perception about your size? Why choose not to throw next to your competitors if not to hide your physical deficiencies side by side?

Your job as a draft prospect and a draft prospect's agent is to maximize your draft stock. Blaming Bryce for deception is just dumb.

Honestly, the Panthers were smitten and sold. Bryce could've stepped on the scale at 189 and floated dying ducks at the combine and they would've still drafted him because they were sold on him being a "super processor" who could overcome any and all physical deficiencies.

You can blame Bryce and his agent for their deception, and still understand that’s their job at that point in the process. They’re about as trustworthy as a used car salesman. Anyone with a brain knows that BY didn’t play at that weight and was trying to look bigger. They were trying to hide his shortcomings. Perfectly understandable and normal for every draft pick.

The blame for the evaluation of his actual abilities and ultimately the success of the pick falls squarely on the FO. How much of the deception worked we will likely never know, but there’s nothing wrong with pointing out what was blatantly obvious at the time.

I don't have to explain it. That's for the team to be smart enough to realize.  I knew it as soon as I saw it why he didn't compete for everyone.  He held out for his pro day for a reason.

All players looking to improve their draft positions use whatever means they can to do so, including hiring agents and media advisors to help them do just that.

So I'm not getting why he has to be singled out. The blame is on the front office for falling for typical draft season bs. This game is not a new one. It's gone on ever since agents were invented. Agents and the people they hire work the teams and media mouth breathers to sell a player. Buyer beware.

I'm not blaming any of them for doing their jobs. And I'm not absolving the Panthers. I'm acknowledging what transpired.

All anyone had to do was watch the game film. We had Scott Fitterer who thought he was a next level big brain and passed on Stroud because he didn't score well on a flavor of the month test. Could be that the Tepper's had involvement and pushed for Bryce. I think they wanted Bryce largely in part due to how he sold the Tepper's on his personality. We can only speculate. But the problem this creates is Dan Morgan was right there in the thick of it and we're expecting him to fix this roster. I'm trying to be hopeful but yeah...

It is funny going back and reading his scouting reports and not one mentions downfield accuracy as a weakness, yet it is discussed on Alabama sites etc.   He is 33rd in the league in the nfl for deep catchable balls.

Yep! How our FO missed this giant fluttering red flag is completely beyond me.

20-yard throws Comp. Att. % Yards Y/A Y/C Drop
2021: Young 10 33 36.1% 416 12.6 41.6 9%
2020: Jones 29 50 58% 1,279 25.6 44.1 8%
2019: Tua 17 35 48.6% 659 18.8 38.8 3%
2018: Tua 24 42 57.1% 944 22.5 39.3 2%

Bryce's lack of deep ball accuracy is a fatal trait, and folks wonder why our play calling and scheme suck. Here's your explanation: Bryce simply can't make the necessary throws to push the ball down the field. He's a dinker and dunker and a checkdown specialist because he's incapable of being more. Ironic, since Bryce fans are calling for scheme and plays to be tailored to Bryce's so-called strengths, but what they don't realize is that the scheme and plays had in fact been tailored to suit Bryce.

Bryce is the reason why our play calling and scheme suck, he is the limiting factor, and he should have been benched after the Seattle game as the coaches had requested, because he simply isn't ready for the NFL.

He's singled out because he was drafted by the Panthers and this is the Panthers message board. Part of it is also that I can't remember any other player trying to hide their shortcomings to that degree. The front office was enamored with his S2 score and his interview and its 100% their fault how the pick has turned out so far. It's just another example under Tepper ownership when the Huddle knew better than our FO and that in itself is just really fugging sad.

Oh y’all arguing the deception? There sure was deception. And it was as easy to see through as it gets.  I don’t like that he did it, I don’t think it is becoming of him to do it. In my case he had enough points taken off already to make it a non factor.

The Panthers apparently weren’t bothered by it. Just another reason to think they are total dumb asses, IMO.

You really can't. No one was defrauded. The Panthers just made a really dumb decision.

I've never seen anything like it. Draft prospects - especially QBs - usually get absolutely nitpicked to death but for whatever reason just about everyone seemed willing if not downright eager to look past a multitude of red flags with Bryce all the way to fully beclowning themselves creating a narrative that Bryce was held back by inferior surrounding talent in college at ALABAMA.

You can do all the coping you want to do but it doesn't change the reality that Bryce's arm limits the passes he can attempt vs. other NFL QBs.

Yes, his arm strength is absolutely 100% subpar for an NFL QB.

It isn’t. You have a misunderstanding of what average vs subpar is. Subpar means he wouldn’t have been able to make it to the NFL let alone be drafted number 1.

His college tape no longer matters. His erroneous draft evaluations no longer matters. Our idiotic decision to trade up and draft him #1 no longer matters. We've seen him play 16 NFL games and we've watched his SUBPAR arm float dying ducks all over the field.

This is a brain dead take. The tape on his arm strength and the professionals that spent months to years evaluating the tape aren’t irrelevant. Bryce’s arm strength didn’t deteriorate in less than a year when he left college .

Use your head. Did Bryce suddenly get worse and all the draft evaluation about his arm become wrong? OR did the surrounding situation he was placed in no highlight the skill and talent that is still there?

I’m sorry but I’m going to trust the pros evaluations vs some guy on the internet who “watches the games” apparently you don’t watch a lot because you seem to disregard the poo show that was the oline, receivers, run game, and scheme last year.
