Optimistic Outlook

2023 was abysmal and that's being kind.  What was supposed to be a strength turned into a nightmare.  FA signing underperformed and that's being kind also with the exception of Theilen.  Defense was overworked and some key players weren't available.

OFFENSIVELY, WHAT IF

Canales gets our O-line out of that crazy zone blocking scheme and gets back to smashmouth football.  Something our O-Line was better at than the zone blocking BS.  We run the ball effectively and take the pressure of Young having to shoulder the load.  We get some real receivers in here.  If we bring in through Free Agency someone like Mike Evans and maybe draft a WR with 33.

My opinion is that our O-line group is not as bad as many want to believe.  I think Icky didn't respond well to the Reich zone blocking scheme and his sophomore season was one to forget.  I believe that the Canales and Morgan philosophy of bringing the dawg out of our players will improve our O-line greatly.

If all these things happen, which IMO isn't not impossible, we might just be competitive offensively to make some noise next year.

DEFENSIVELY, WHAT IF

We have Evero back with his defense.  The players already know his scheme and 2024 they should be even better than 2023.   Our offense reduces the 3 and outs and we don't have the defense on the field for 40 plus minutes.  We keep Luvu and either re-sign Burns or get a pick for him.  Draft a DE and get another one in the draft.  Horn will stay healthy this year.  This is a season where his money is at stake, and I believe he'll play many more games than he'll miss.

I think Evero can make this defensive squad a legitimate top 10 defense.

Being the eternal optimist that I am, if all these things came together maybe we actually win more than we lose and make the playoffs.

Summary

I think Morgan is going to bring is some Free Agent Dawgs and draft a couple more. I think this our offense is fixable and with the right coaches we could get back to an offense that can put points on the board.  The defense will be a legitimate Top 10 and we'll win our fair share of our game.

I want to be optimistic and it's a good time to be so, with nothing going on and nothing to lose.

Let's see how things go up to and through the draft. That may show us an awful lot of where we're going. We have few chips in the game, but maybe they can make something happen.

But let's quit shopping for big name receivers at the end of their careers. That's not the move teams that are trying to build for the future do.

We need our scouts to be out there looking for draft steals and checking for second and third string players that are undiscovered gems.

6 wins.   Maybe

Also evans isn't coming here.  Y'all need to move on from that idea

One I said someone like Mike Evans not necessarily him.  I'm sure we can entice a top tier WR FA to come here.

6 wins is a pessimistic outlook.  But that's my opinion.

Houston turned it around in one season so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

If Canales gets us from 2 to 6 wins in one year that would be a very good sign. That means year 2 should expect around a 500 season with a possible playoff push. This roster has a lot of holes still.

I agree. Reputation is everything and the reputation for this team has been hurt this past season The owner throwing water on a fan didn’t help much either.

whatever happens this season the administration needs to remember to “fix the reputation problems.”  Tepper needs to stay out of the news.

In his press conference Canales mentioned two players by name. Bryce and Chubba. Playing us to our strengths. Which would make our Oline better and would probably lead to Bryce running alot of RPO's.

But wouldn't that make RB a huge need. Idunno wat happened to Sanders and Chubba is a fringe starter. Do we resign Chubba, draft a guy like Corrum or do we look for at FA ala Foreman again? Keep in mind our cap space.

There's too many if's for this to play out in your favor.  When you have more than one or if for any scenario to play out in your favor you have no chance at success.

For every if you introduce you decrease your odds by 50%. Do the math. It's more likely that it's gets worse before it gets better. But I'm prepared for just that. Are you?

    • Bryce has been in the NFL 3 years and still looks like a very mediocre QB. Most games are nothing but mediocre plays with a highlight reel every now and then.  He is a very INCONSISTENT QB and it’s very fustrating. He does not deserve a 5th year option, even though the Panthers and all the dumb asses in the front office will give it to him.
    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
