Once the reporter doubled down, I began to doubt that it was made-up. IIRC it was Josina Anderson. In any event, I'm glad that the  Panthers and Tepper pivoted away from Johnson.

I don't doubt that his agent set a high price tag. I heavily doubt that it was what Anderson said it was since the agent himself denied it publicly.

With that made public, would have been pretty tough for him to go into an owner's meeting and say "just kidding, that's the price".

You think if Johnson became available for an OC job, teams wouldn't step on people to hire him?

Hell, every team in the league has changed OCs in the last few years.

A few teams with openings may be interested but no I do not think half the league would be firing people just to have a chance at him. That is absurd. He's done pretty well with Detroit but they've also had arguably the most offensive talent in the league the last couple years and Campbell's offensive acumen is overlooked and certainly plays a large part in their success. He's not just a meathead hype/rah rah guy. Worked closely with Sean Payton in NO as assistant HC and surely brought a lot of that with him to Detroit.

Gonna disagree with you on this one.

He pulled out of Carolina and Washington, probably the two worst organizarions in the league.

Obviously there’s hope in in DC but for now they are what they are. I don’t think anyone can fault him for steering clear of Carolina.

As far as the commanders, pairing an air raid offensive coordinator with a defensive minded head coach seems like a recipe to be looking for one or both next season.

Last year he pulled out of all interviews. Not just Carolina.

ok and we'll likely never find out as he's not leaving Detroit for a different OC role

Probably not. It'd likely only be plausible in some weird scenario where Campbell got fired and Johnson wasn't under contract.

That scenario itself isn't especially plausible.

(but this was all purely hypothetical anyway)

It's only a "dodged bullet" if Canales is successful.

That's a question that won't be answered for a while.

That’s fair. It’ll also be interesting to see how Johnson does as HC IF he ever takes that step. We can all name some GREAT coordinators who never successfully made that next step.

I wish more coordinators had the self awareness to know what they’re good at and stick with it.  Kudos to Ben.

He seems to be struggling with this awareness quite a bit.

He's been the most desired coach for the last 2 years. He didn't just pass on the commanders and the Panthers.  He's passed on most of the teams in the NFL at this point.

Sounds like he doesn't want a HC gig/doesn't interview well/is happy where he is.

I never bought into his hype.

Not upset at all that he's not here.

It's important to want somebody that wants to be here, or it's going to fail anyways.
