This fanbase is sad. Every year "we don't need elite players."

You're asking why we would want a elite defensive player. My response is look at our roster are we in position to turn down elite players I think not.

Every year it's a rebuild. Well damn how long will the rebuild last? We need talent on this team. Jones is one of the best defensive players in football.

I guess signing 3rd wave FA's are the Panthers way now.

It's not about needing elite players, it's about going about rebuilding the franchise in a smart way.

We already have a good defense that we can still add other pieces this offseason to improve it.  Would adding Jones be a bigger improvement on anything else we can do?  Of course, but this again is where you're looking at things in a vacuum and not the bigger picture, so your ideas are terrible for real life possibilities.

We need to give Brown an extension, even if we wait a year, it has to happen.  Paying $30+ million to another DT on top of Brown when we have so many other holes makes absolutely no sense.

Also, if you're giving a contract of that size out to any player at our stage of re-build, they better be young enough that you are doing it with the expectation that they will be around for another contract after that, like Higgins or Aiyuk if we're able to trade for them.

When you're in a re-build like we are, you give out big contracts to young players, big contracts to players of Jones' age are for when you think you're a few pieces away from legit contention.

And just because Jones has made it clear he wants to be paid, it doesn't mean he's just going highest bidder, KC was just limited on a long term deal they could offer them because of their own cap issues.

He'll probably sign with someone like the Texans, their SB window opens next year and is good for 2-4 years before any Stroud extension would kick in.  They have a lot of impact players still on rookie deals, signing someone like Jones makes a lot of sense for both sides there.

We need to draft a Chris Jones.

Paying for one now is boneheaded.

this. right. here.

we're not going to be a playoff bound team this next year. probably not next year either.

build wisely and frugally.

consider what greg olsen said a couple weeks ago

I don’t think you need to panic and go out and pay $25 million to whoever the top free-agent receiver is just to check that box. I don’t think they’re one player away. I think it’s gonna be roster depth, great drafting, signing the right free agents. And then it’s going to be about coaching and playing to the strengths of the guys you already have under contract. I think you saw Ejiro Evero do that on defense this year. They developed a lot of talent on defense, a lot of guys that weren’t expected to play. And I would argue they played well above expectation. That’s coaching. That’s what the NFL is. You’re not always gonna inherit an amazing roster. You’ve got to make the best of what you have. I think that’s what Dave’s approach will be.

draft well and pick up not star or elite FAs that you have to pay $20mil/year for. get the decent role players who can help fill out the roster or who can be developed. build from the bottom up.

it's not sexy, but it's smart. we've got limited resources to rebuild this team. should we have to rebuild this team after waiting so long? no, but we have to because tepper hired the wrong people. hopefully he hired the right ones this time around, but until we get the right guys rebuilding this team we're going to be stuck and there isn't a chris jones or any other high $ player is going to fix that. it will only put us in a worse cap situation.

Yeah, Bryce probably ain't it. That's why sinking HUGE $$$ into a 29 year old DL makes zero sense.

I would rather do nothing, but we all know that isnt the tepper way.

We should just draft our guys resign luvu and brown and let Bryce sink or swim. Get a real QB in 25.

I still think our best bet to land a #1 WR outside of the draft is via a Brian Burns tag + trade.

Seems there are always teams looking to trade receivers they don't want to pay.

The Burns ship has sailed I doubt we get anything for him.

Losers will continue to make losing moves every year. I'm tired of debating the same thing every year.

Sign scraps in FA and hope our rookies can help contribute. It's what we have been doing since Tepper took over!

Wake up people we need Elite Players!

Since Tepper bought the team, there has never been a rebuild full scale. We've tried to buy cheap and flip for gold and it has failed miserably. This team can't go any further until Bryce proves he's not the guy. Now to a lot of fans, he's already proven that. For Tepper, his golden boy is going to have to crash and burn even more spectacularly for him to move on.

If we had an owner that understood this is an NFL franchise and not a hedge fund, it would be different. But it's not and this is the Carolina Panthers of 2024.

    • We will make it interesting. I think we'll be on a roll by then.
    • Especially glad there's no Thursday games. I hate them. They're dangerous. They really fug up a routine and unless you're team is coming off a bye, they play the game with little rest or prep.
    • Sober. Still feeling it. I really like how the schedule is laid out for us. Perfect for a new HC and rebuilding team. Aside from the Bengals, there aren't  any good teams before the bye. Chargers will be, but they're having to figure poo out just like we are and they'll be coming here for an early game. That one is a toss up. I like our defense against them. I think we'll give the Bengals a fight, but I wouldn't put money on us winning that one. But the saints can be swept. They're beat up and just don't have much going on. They'll be at the bottom of the division. I feel like we will split with the falcons and the bucs. There's nothing scary about the raiders or that washington team. Chicago is another toss up, but they aren't scary either....not yet anyways. We're getting them early in the season so I like our chances. I especially like our defense against a rookie QB. And the broncos....boring. Giants....again, boring. Looking at this, we've got a good defensive thing going on. I think the unit will be better this year a d we're in season 2 of Evero. I like us especially against rookie QBs, and we'll have at least 3 we're facing before the bye. We come in and play smash mouth football and just keep hitting (pounding) away and I think we're competitive. It's that schedule after the bye that scares me. Hopefully by that point they've built up a lot of confidence. You get a scrappy dawg that's got some confidence and a lot of fight in him and you've always got a shot. I think that's what we'll be this year. This year isn't about winning all the games. It's about building confidence and learning what we've got to do. But looking at that later schedule and it's not horrible. We've got the eagles and chiefs....that's scary, but then we've got the cardinals and cowboys at home...and it's the cowboys in December. When have they been scary in December? And we've got division games in there as well. I think we'll do ok. The more I look at it, the better I feel about it.
