I sure as hell hope he's right.  Because the alternative is where we are, and has a best odds of unfolding.  Unless Morgan has some magic up his sleeve I'm struggling to find a way that he can build a better offensive group with the little draft capital he has left. If you go by his comments in his presser it appears our remaining cap will go to shore up the defensive side of the team. Canales better be the next Shaun McVay if this team hopes to not finish last in the nfcs again this season.

Not a secret that we need more draft picks, especially with a draft class thought to be stronger than typical.  Burns needs to be monetized into draft picks.  Trading back from 33 may be necessary, as distasteful as that is.

Morgan has his work cut out for him the next 2-3 drafts.

We'll know for sure by about week 3 of the regular season.

If he's no better, then we should go ahead and start looking at who we will get with a high draft pick that we will "earn" and hopefully still get to use.

And we could, of course, all be going "Wow, he was worth it" by week 3, too.

Sanders is my favorite in the 25 class. Obviously still have a year to play.

i'm going to give it a half a season. good or bad, i think we'll have a real clue.

for starters, it could take half a season to get everyone on the same page. it's one thing to get it worked out in TC and other practices. to get it worked out in games against live bullets is another entirely. bucs led by baker looked like any team led by baker for the first half a season, but then things started to click. maybe it takes that long?

also, if they do look better initially, you have to question whether or not it's sustainable or if it's something that defenses had trouble figuring out for a few weeks but then someone figures it out for everyone else. remember we looked good with rhule for a few weeks a couple years but then completely fell apart.

either way, i'm not going to buy anything until i see what's happening at the half way point.

its 6 picks rather than 7. It's not Seattle from a couple of years level bad.  We also can easily have more picks in this draft.  You know as well as I do it's not and never was gonna be completely fixed in one offseason.

What would it take to acquire the pick we don’t have?

Pretty sure all 6 wouldn’t be enough. Hell I’d guess all that times 2 wouldn’t be enough.

I'm with @rayzor in that I'd rather be enjoying that dreading.  I'm not sure how you can enjoy football dreading each game or season.  Not for me!

I expect another struggle bus season, but I do expect Bryce to play better, the defense to keep chugging along (depending on what happens with Burns).  I think we'll see improvements in many areas, maybe chase .500 for the season.  I think they can be a scrappy team.

I know many are ready to just drop Bryce like a child at a fire station, but he was widely considered a top 2 pick by almost the entire NFL media machine, and many teams as well.  So there's no question of his talent or ability to play.  The problem is the system in 2023 sucked horribly.  It's up to Bryce and the rest of the team to show us who we actually drafted.

As noted down the line from my original comment, yeah it stings not having the first.... but it's not the only way to get an impact player... I mean look at our last 3 1st round picks... they've been a mixed bag overall...

It's not the end of the world if we go into '24 Draft without a 1st.

There isn’t a way to spin this to where it spells success. You can’t spell oops it could have been worse, with it. I guess you *could* say that, and with a straight face - if we had gotten Any value out of the deal.

What value we got, we could have had for a single second day pick. Maybe 3rd day if we go by how he played.

We got objectively much worse because of this plan. The double whammy of going to the casino, risking it all on 32 red ....  and taking the bus home cause you are broke, says hi.

You choose to find things to be hopeful for because you're tired of being pissed and feeling disappointed. There's plenty of time to be disappointed in the team if we suck again. No use in spending all year like that.

It's not easy finding things to feel hopeful for and it's even harder deciding or letting yourself feel hopeful for anything.

I'm just saying there was ever a time to feel hopeful about the team rather than feeling dread about another poo year, it's now and you better grab it while you can because when the season starts that window might close.

It's a new year....a new GM....a new head coach. And hopefully a new outcome.

Like I said before, it's not for everyone and I don't blame anyone for already mailing it in. It's not like we've exactly had a track record that would give you much room for confidence. That's just the easy way, though.

Being a panthers fan has never been easy, even in the good years. It's always been an ulcer waiting to explode. But we choose to do it every year. Why? Because we hope that maybe this year we will be closer to getting that ring. We hope that maybe this year will be better.

Is it realistic? Probably not, but why not choose to find a reason to feel good about the team? Bring pissed of or mailing it in at this point in the season for any reason just isn't fun and if it isn't fun any more, the why the hell bother with it?

For me it's just football.  There are many way important things to be worried about.  A new GM and HC is definitely something to look forward to.  I want to see how they try to steady the ship and what moves they make as a priority, who they draft and why etc, etc..

I follow other groups who aren't nearly as down on Bryce as this place seems to be.  Don't get me wrong many didn't like what they saw and honestly they have every right to express their opinions.  It's the overexaggerating and trying to rewrite history that can drive me crazy sometimes.

Anyway if we completely suck with Bryce this year and he looks the same or worse, we should have the top pick again and simply try again for another QB.  If he progresses then we can continue to build around him and see if we can get a competitive roster.  I'm not too attached to any player currently.  My Auburn fanhood and his great play on the field does lead me to like DB a lot and I hope we extend him, but even if we traded him for the right package I would entertain it to see what happens.

I missed this somehow... OMG man.

There are nothing BUT questions in regards to his ability to play football in the NFL. They don’t see a way to move on so they are trying to fix it. And Bro, it is definitely broken.

The hand picked QB whisperer they hired to employ his talents, had no answer. Obviously, people say, Bryce was just too much for him to handle  (being a dinosaur and all. Sure).

So, they fired the GM and hired a SECOND QB-is-my-specialty offensive staff. Brought in specifically, to fix it.

He Can play. I guess. In college. He simply does not have the game the current successful QBs in the league have. He doesn’t even have the game the mediocre guys in the league have.

It is why there is a whole new staff, again, they are here to design a way to hide him, basically. They are gonna do what they would do if they were given a 5th round pick and told to make him the starter. There is nothing else left to do with him.

A quick google search doesnt show anything so maybe I am wrong but I honestly remember palmer pumping him up in the pre draft process because of their relationship

They’re both Cali dudes. Same with Darnold. Palmer has always said good things about Sam as well.

They all know each other so Palmer cherry picking a few plays doesn’t do anything for me.
