Smith Sr. & Zierlein discuss their top 10 WRs

Recommended Posts

Seriously though, I think if one of those first round graded CBs slide, they will be the 33rd pick. I was looking into Wiggins, and now I m thinking that if either he ir Kool-Aid falls, all the people who want offense at all costs are going to be upset.

Well damn, talking about offensive...

yeah this year i hope they overload on offensive playmakers. that needs to be the #1 priority. add a couple playmakers on defense maybe, but if you can get an offensive playmaker you get him.

The most interesting thing to me about watching these many analysts is that they all agree that where a guy is drafted and how he is deployed absolutely matters. It can make or break careers.

Take even a Curtis Samuel.  Nothing on the outside vs a good slot option.  Same can be said for corners.  Take Captain.  One of the better slot corners.  Asking to play on the outside he then becomes a liability.

you got to draft talent and then use it right

You don’t draft Clemson DBs.

Sincerely,

A Clemson fan.  The whole D lives and dies with the front.  That’s been the case for a decade plus.

That's been me for weeks. CB feels like the best case for 33rd, THEN use 39 on C or WR...but BPA BPA BPA. *Only way Id see passing a dropping CB is if somehow Barton dropped as well, 1% chance. Deal is someone has to drop, but recent years teams are overdrafting CBs....same as WRs.

#2 CB is the biggest hole, that could change if Colbert doesn't figure out C. Just Horn has proven he can not play even a half season, so Donte and PS guy are your starting CBs?!?!?! No way can you allow that. Plus I don't see a 34 year old Gilmore getting 8 million as a solution either.

I just can not see how the Panthers draft two defenders with those picks, it would be pick forks and torches..... But to me if both are clear BPA, why not?? It's not like a WR would make a 5 win addition to this sad roster. Plus Ive seen plenty of WRs there at 65 that many would draft at 33&39. Even 101 has walker and few others that should be there.

you're thinking the same thing i am, and not just by these two. he's one of the top 4 slot(ish) guys i hope we get...with Ladd, Corley, and Malik Washington. Give me any of those 4 and a X(ish) type WR who can stretch the field and i think we're good.

oh...and a TE.

and another RB who is a thumper and decent receiving option.

I like Ladd, Pearsall, then Washington (his production at UVa was impressive).  Corley?  I am not sure he is much more than a Shenault, but I have to read up on him and watch some videos.  TE is sorely needed, and a RB thumper is indeed something this offense needs.  There are some I really like (listing schools to avoid looking up names) Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Troy.  All should be day 3 picks.

I watched it this afternoon and I thought some of the best discussions was before it even got to the players.

One thing that really jumped out to me was when Smitty was asked about how things have changed since he played and the thing he talked about was how when he played and going back to Jerry Rice says, the #1 targeted or looked to receiver was always the X and there's still a lot of people who's minds are still stuck in that idea. But what has happened is that the, what he calls, the F receiver...the flanker...is now the go to guy. You need the X to try and get safeties out of the box, but the QB is now looking for his flanker most of the time.

With that evolution, it's a big reason why nickel or dime is 80%+ of many-to-most team's defensive looks.

And who is on that guy most of the time? The slot defender, in the box, that has a multitude of responsibilities communicating presnap and sticking to the powerful RBs AND the slipperiest guys in the game at WR.   You gotta be versatile, excel in man-to-man, zone, play strong against the run and blitz...all in the box.  They're communicating with the DBs, LBs, they're responsible for filling the B gap, C gap.  They're basically a coach on the field and have hybrid LB responsibilities.

Which I find interesting people don't hold that role in higher regard.  The league does.  Trent McDuffie was basically the Chiefs defensive MVP this past season and a huge reason they won the SB.  I'm looking at Kenny Moore, Jalen Ramsey, Gardner-Johnson, Marlon Humphrey, K'Waun Williams...these are some of the best in the game.

[insert my paragraph hyping Sainristil again] Michigan's defensive captain, team MVP, excellent tackler, ballhawk, & could be right there for us R2.  Just saying...

This is also why Chinn may have not worked out for Evero.  He was a monster athlete and a Kam prototype, but he wasn't a do-it-all in the box type of slot guy.  Which is the Ramsay/Mr. everything slot role I sense we're seeking.

If he can stay healthy.

His style of play at his size does not lead to being healthy often.

Yep, John Ross comes to mind.  Hollywood Brown too.

Ross had a bad Carfax report coming out of college, but Brown and D. Jackson just don't make sense. I mean fast guys who run away from people constantly being out for hamstring issues seems so avoidable if they take care of their bodies. Other than injuries before the draft, its a tossup.

Worthy has athletic ability better than DeSean Jackson and their measurable are identical.  Worthy will be a nightmare in NFL.

Worthy is going to be a very good NFL WR if he can stay healthy. If he goes to the right offense he will be a multi time pro bowler

I have warmed up to Worthy. I thought he was just speed, but he does have some more wiggle to him.

Watched him a lot at Texas the past two seasons. He made salad out of sh*t a lot of times. I don’t think he’s a match for a weak arm QB like Bryce but put him on the Chiefs and it’s over. Dude will be in the pro bowl every year if he stays healthy.

wouldn't argue that. i would argue that here isn't the place where that would happen.
