According to Legette, Panthers will draft Legette at #33

Lmao Legette is more likely to go in the back end of the 1st and Huddle GMs are saying yeah I’d take a flyer on him in the third…

Y’all are so out of the loop of reality it’s ridiculous…

I very seriously doubt that. Older prospect one year wonder who blew up with an extra COVID year. The NFL track record of those types of guys so far is pretty awful and this is a stacked WR class.

I honestly think he's a 3rd round value but that doesn't mean he won't be drafted earlier. It only takes one team to disagree.

If the Panthers are indeed locked in on Legette, they should have told him to keep quiet about it for the reason cited in your post.

However, I do think that there is a good chance that we won't get leap-frogged this year.  A team may take Legette in round one with their original pick make all of this a moot point.  But if a team wants to move up from the 2nd round into the back end of the 1st round, they're probably going to have to give up a #1 pick in next years draft. I think most teams will find the price a little too high to go thru with a deal.

Having the first pick in the 2nd round means we can't be leap frogged on Day 2. We could be if we were in any other draft slot.

If they take him, I'm comfortable with it. They've done their homework. If someone is your guy, sometimes you just don't  play around, you take them.

One thing I have learned over the years is that there is definitely a disconnect between the media and actual front offices regarding a player's worth. I don't care to be the victim of media-driven narratives pertaining to the draft, so I don't put too much stock into what I'm hearing unless I have a specific reason to do so.

That being said, I'm not getting all hot and bothered by rumors. When we make our picks, hopefully they're good ones.

Honestly, this screams draft gamesmanship.  I think the Panthers do like Legette.  He's very interesting.  By broadcasting that they want a guy, their hope is that will allow them to get more for pick 33.

That's what I think.  Wouldn't surprise me if they don't draft him either.

Even Steve Smith who at one point said he was a better Metcalf ended up backing off and ranking him as his wr 10 or 11.

The reason for that, like most of the analysts that I've heard, is that they can't say for sure which Legette is the real Legette. Some have more conviction. Brett Kollmon said he believes Legette is the sixth best WR in this class regarding the draft.

The problem with that is he played 5 years in college.  If he played 5 years in college and you have no idea who the real Legette is... theres no way you take that at 33

He was in college for 5 years and did absolutely nothing until his 5th season.  He's a "project" thats older than Mingo already.  Old "raw" players basically never work.  We should have learned that by now.  That was our drafting strategy all the years Fitterer was here and it was our worst period of drafts.

That's not all Leggette.  That pass O was a joke until Rattler came on late his first year.  Which is about when Leggette started to develop.

and if we are honest, the U of SC pass game was wildly inconsistent with Rattler because of the OL and playcalling.

The fact Leggette had a dominant season out of U of SC is pretty amazing given how he plays and the hurdles.  It's not like he is out there catching some bullshit routes all game.

Why would you tell a player in the second round that?  Crazy

I am a bit dubious that they would actually guarantee they will take him if he is available.  Especially if there are at least 32 unforeseen variables that may happen before you pick. Something like "Your on our board at 33" may have been misconstrued.

I don't think 89 backed off anything in his evaluation.  This happens to be a deep and good WR draft class.  89 essentially likely has Leggette going higher than Metcalf did.

Metcalf went 64th in his draft.

    • I agree with this and I think it's worth mentioning too that Bryce is not consistent on his placement and especially velocity and that in large part is driven by his footwork. We all know XL doesn't have the best hands and I don't know that he can overcome that. Cam always had the heater that just hit your hands and sank into your grip, where Bryce has some that are harder thrown, some soft. Bryce stepping into a pass looks so much different than that hop throw thing he does. I think XL really needs to hit the jugs machine and start learning how to catch all these different touch passes. TMac and Coker don't have these issues. If XL doesn't get some work in he's going to be out of the league in the next couple of years.
    • I think most people like XL from a personal standpoint. I don't think he's stupid either. Although if we are being realistic he is lacking in football IQ at this point in time and it cannot be disputed that he has not taken working on his craft seriously at all times given the body of work on the field. It speaks for itself. I myself have defended him at times given the circumstances of our QB room. But he is now in his third year and 25 years old. We are not in a position as a franchise to go around babying anyone especially first round draft picks. He needs to take his position and his football career seriously or he is going to end up selling used cars somewhere. I hope he realizes this and takes an extended break from social media because that mess certainly isn't going to increase his net worth if he ends up out of the league. And these hanger on types will disappear quick too once that money dries up and it surely will eventually. We'll see how he responds.
