Before I head into work-some things I've seen floating around today:

  • Daniels seems a lock at #2
  • Pats seem locked on Maye at #3, AZ with Marv at #4
  • LAC-Latham love is real, but fans want Nabers - To trade or not to trade?
  • Philly has multiple people thinking they're trading up, same with the Cards from Pick 27
  • Falcons are definitely taking calls at 8 depending on who's available
  • Bills are making calls and want a receiver

Feel free to add more as things trickle in today - looking at you tweet embedders (+Juan)

Is no-one worried that Daniels is going to be a 24 year old rookie?

"You have to help Bryce".

He's beyond saving.

Just pick BPA, regardless of position, and get this rebuild started properly. We're down multiple premium picks with zero NFL QBs on the roster. Stop digging.

Agree, older QBs that started for 4-5 years scare me. They might look good year 1, but year 2 usually rough.

I mean, what is their untapped potential and upside? The last 1-2 years have been men playing against boys.

2021: Terrace Marshall Jr. (2) NO SEPARATION

2017: Curtis Samuel (2) has been better--was decent

2015: Devin Funchess (2) NO SEPARATION

2010: Brandon Lafell (3) OK, small hands; Armanti Edwards (3) route running, small

2007: Dwayne Jarrett (2) NO SEPARATION

2004: Keary Colbert (2) NO SEPARATION

2001: Steve Smith (3)

I added a few comments about each that I recall or have recently read  See comments above---I had to go back and read articles etc. about Colbert, Jarrett, etc.

Moose and Smith are the reason we were in the Super Bowl.

They should be. The track record of these older one year wonders is atrocious. You basically have Joe Burrow to the positive and practically everyone else to the negative. You're talking about guys who are the age of most second year and some third year NFL players playing against college kids. You gotta grade them with a curve that reflects that.

I think that Caleb is going to be good.  After that, it depends where they go:
Maye  If he goes to Minnesota or the Giants, he has a better supporting staff than Daniels will in Washington.  New England would not be the best situation for Maye, imo.  He will be able to watch for a season in NY--possibly in Minnesota.  If Daniels goes to Washington, he will be on his own, but the Commanders have a lot of draft capital.

Penix is not going to do well in Vegas until they get the OL worked out.  However, he can sit for a season there.

I see them as a potential trading partner with Carolina:

Washington picks in top 100:

  • Round 1 (2)
  • Round 2 (36)
  • Round 2 (40)
  • Round 3 (67)
  • Round 3 (78)
  • Round 3 (100)

McCarthy is going to land in a pretty good situation.  Either the Giants (where he will sit for a season) or Minnesota is better than Washington or New England.

    • Word is that Lawrence showed up and weighed in at nearly 400 pounds for his Bengals medical check. I'd find a reason to fail him. Blood type tested as bacon grease. Fail. We've all seen what happens when a dominant huge, explosive DT can't manage his weight. You're gonna age like milk. Looking like Kris Jenkins 2.0.
    • Hard to interpret some of Brugler's opinions. Capable of running a robust route tree sounds like a lazy thing to say - I'm sure just about every slot TE is capable of running a full route tree... I want to know if he is currently able to (which from tape leads me to a no). Granted, it's pretty common for most receivers/TE not having a full route tree developed before they get drafted. Agility/acceleration after the catch hasn't shown up on his tape (at least his Oregon tape) for those dig/out breaking routes while it has for the seam and slant routes. Agree he has a good physical build and he is very good running seam routes. His build definitely helps him to shield defenders and create a large target point for the QB. Drops were a concern, but it could be focus drops just like T-Mac was/is prone to. Run blocking is an accurate statement, but again, we have only seen him run block in the slot/backfield - inline blocking is a whole different animal. With his athleticism, he definitely has a high ceiling. I just think he also has a low floor and don't like taking that big of a risk on a mid 1st rounder. I think this is a deep TE draft and would much rather target one in the 3rd or later. He's very boom or bust to me - bust in terms of being worth a 1st round pick, not an out of the NFL in a few years type bust. I feel like he gives me Evan Engram vibes. Not saying that Evan Engram was/is a bad NFL player, just that most people would agree he shouldn't have been drafted in the 1st.
