33rd Team article: It's time to rethink Bryce Young's expectations

This means our offense is still going to be a poo show. Bryce has never done the 3,5,7 step drops and now we  think he can finally learn this at the NFL level?

Bryce cannot run a traditional pro style offense because of his severe physical limitations. We are going to see a bunch of more games with that horrible 19/34 97 yards type bullshit unless some of our WRs can make something out of nothing.

IF the defense we are playing keeps everything in front of them and tackles well its over. Camp out at 15 yards and wait for him to dump the ball off at 3-5 yards.

It'a called grasping at straws, any port in a storm, desperation inducing confusion and panic,  that sort of thing.

I don’t have any idea if he can do it. It may just be a dumb idea that could never work. Which fits the general situation.

I was going on the thought that if there are no bad habits to unlearn... it may be a shorter way to get something that isn’t that meander, the crappy footwork, the hitch... the no driving the ball...  which I'm a broken record on it but that sort of thing is no easy fix at that level of competition.

I am high on Arch for sure and I know it’s very very early but his limited garbage time snaps last season left a lot of room for development. It’ll be interesting to see how he performs in fall 2025.

We may have a more realistic chance to get Quinn Ewers in the 2025 draft.

No to Quinn. I’d honestly be surprised if we don’t get a Trevor Lawrence situation this year where Manning just outright wins the job during the year.

A spring game isn’t always indicative of much but go watch the highlights from the Texas Spring Game. Manning is going to be the real deal.

It's probably best to go into the season with no expectations on Bryce -- good or bad. He, like every QB in the NFL every year will sink or swim based on what he can haul to the table on opening day. Sometimes the bad ones catch a moment of magic and take off, sometimes a mid one crumbles and finds themselves as a journeyman backup (not the worst career in the world to have), sometimes a great one hits the wall of age or injury and just can't answer the bell anymore.

And with Bryce we have no idea what we have or will have. Any expectations right now are just speculations. The young guy has the weight of his entire life so far weighing down on him and defensive coordinators looking to pad their resumes with a game against a number one draft pick that they think they can rattle and reduce to nothing.

Sheesh, I wouldn't want to be the kid, yanno?

Still, that's a lot of money, that's a lot of potential, and that's a shot at immortality in the sports world he has by being that draft pick and a starting QB. The rewards... they're just astounding.

What will be will be, though. Hoping for the best for the kid and the team. Looking at recent history here, though, and I just can't expect anything. I guess I'll just have to tune in and find out when it begins to really matter in September.

lol. Stroud wasn’t mentioned a single time in any post, since I just read through this. This thread is about what’s next.

Back to the thread on hand. While I see an extremely small chance Young is ever good enough to win in the playoffs, this is the year for him to show something. If the 2025 QBs don’t have any studs (so far seems meh), maybe we take a day 2 flyer or maybe we just ignore QB and go after BPA/strengths of the draft. I don’t care if Young gets year 3 or not if there’s no QB that we legitimately think can win us playoff games until the 2026 draft. We’ve dug ourselves a huge talent hole and we finally have a full allotment of picks in 2025/2026. If Young sucks, let him get us a top pick and maybe trade down for more 2026 picks if we don’t like the QBs. Do what the Bears did to us or Miami did to the Texans and magically have two high 2026 firsts.

If Young sucks again, we could also go Zappe/Purdy type late round QB and hope you get magic in a bottle or at least have something different to watch in 2025 while we suck for Arch (lol, no idea if he’ll be good).

Yup. If there are no good enough QBs to take with the top 5 pick next year then grab an A Smith type QB who understands there will be high draft picks incoming and take a flier on a later QB.

I honestly think trading the #1 in '25 for a '26 haul makes a lot of sense for the team in that case but I  see that as extremely unlikely unfortunately.

Yea seriously, god forbid a guy be drafted and actually be able to do the job he was drafted to do.

Go crawl back in your hole. Bryce had one of the worst seasons of ALL TIME and any time anyone says he sucks you guys turn into spongebob.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
