Uh, what?

Colorado and BYU are playing each other in a bowl game?

Since when do bowls have teams from the same conference play each other???? (not counting playoffs of course)

I had to look this one up. For 2024 and 25 this bowl is using the old conferences for their tie in’s. So technically BYU is Big 12 and Colorado is PAC 12. It’s weird.

That is really weird, makes no sense

I do think it's pretty cool though that for the 2nd round the Rose Bowl is getting Oregon/OSU though

Think they had an opportunity to have Colorado actually play a variant of a BIG12 title game and took it.  They never played anyone at the top of that conference this year so it was sort of weird.   You never got a real look at how they even stacked up in conference.

as things continue to evolve in college football..…I think you will see schools that pay big money through the collective start ensuring the deals include playing out full seasons/postseason play.

it’s pay to play.  It’s basically pro ball at the big schools.  No way they let kids cash big checks and then let them sit going forward without penalty.  You can’t do that in pay sports.  Think college football is far from done fixing this monster they created.

I doubt it. Someone will always break rank and offer elite prospects a deal without that stipulation to gain a recruiting advantage.

    • Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.
    • I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.
    • I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
