Hurney's averages in those late rounds was bad.

Fitterer is a bad comparison. He sucked at the 1st through 7th rounds.

Fitterer is (hopefully) the GOAT in terms of pure incompetence in our FO franchise history.

Hurney through draft and free agency put some DUDES on this team, and largely kept them here. Hardy going psycho may have cost us a Super Bowl. With him still on the team,  we don’t lose that game. He got us Norwell. Prohel Jake, Ginn, Olsen kalil, Kris, agent 58, kuechly, hardy, and probably many more that I can’t remember. Leaders. Winners. Guys who never quit. Fox. He kept many past their prime but we had an identity.

Not having Hardy had nothing to do with us losing the 2015 super bowl. His replacement Kony Ealy likely would have been Super Bowl MVP if the league didn't want to rig it for Peyton Manning to go out on top. Also, Norwell was a UDFA that Gettleman signed, not Hurney.

This is not a thread to support the theory that Hurney was a good GM. He proved twice that he was not. I feel similarly about his ability to draft.

But what did happen is that our ability to even evaluate first round talent appears to have faltered in the Tepper era. I would be willing to bet that our overall drafts fare even worse in a comparison like this.

Hurney Pre 2009 was a good GM.

2009 and beyond, it was pretty bad. He still hit his first rounders (as was tradition) and made the Greg Trade, but his contracts, mid round selections, and FA signings were very very not good.

Ahh, 2009. The year they redid Jake's deal. Tagged Peppers, oh boy.... 

JR put Hurney in a corner with Peppers and the tag and cap stuff. I remember that situation having a wide range of effects.

Restructures under the gun lead to mistakes, Jake's being the big one. The draft got out of whack with the desperation to replace Peppers... there you go trading a future one for.... Everette Brown! 

that's what I took away from it back then. 

(I checked the year and it was 2009, while looking I saw that Everette Brown is asst LB coach on the Panthers ha ha. I did not know that.)

Technically only one of them was traded for peanuts(Burns) and he should have been traded for one of the larger hauls in recent memory.

Moore could be construed as peanuts depending on the outcome of Young's career. 

CMC was traded for the biggest haul you will probably see for an NFL RB in the next decade.

Lol 2010 was when he was running the team without input from the HC. That is who he always was unchecked and backed by the owner. Example 2 is Rhule.
