Some additional thoughts about why you have to bench/release Bryce

He will not last long enough to learn on the job. And hiring someone to be head coach who has to learn to be an HC and OC with a terrible qb at the same time is not going to work out. This experiment will end like all the others mark my words.

if only there were multiple established nfl head coaches that wanted to come here

1 and 4 are the biggest reasons to me on there. Canales will lose the team if they don’t do/try something. We’ve been in position to draft Stroud over Bryce, Surtain jr over Horn (or Slater I do believe) Obviously could keep going ha.

Draft position has not been our issue, scouting/decision making has been.

Right but if either was forced Bryce as their starter there is no way to coach around that unless you’re just gonna run the wildcat and wishbone offense. To me that’s the biggest issue. Teppers more worried about being right on Bryce than taking steps in the right direction. You can’t build a culture of competition when the number 1 guy can obviously be the worst on the field  and the coach can’t sit him.

Defense bounced back great yesterday. Insanity to fire him, especially after refusing to let him interview with other teams.

firing coaches is one thing but fuging around with them like that is beyond the pale.

I agree but scapegoating doesn't always make sense. I still think it's Caldwell first.

Fair or not Canales is one or done. I just don’t see a way for him to thread this needle.

I have no idea what the move is here. I know what I’d like to see happen but man. Wow

His only road to salvation is if Bryce leaves the NFL or is cut by the team. This can hopefully begin to restore the locker room. The players at this point have to know that it’s not Canales’ call. As it is now, Bryce even being there is too much for those dudes. He screws up the energy that badly.

1. cut Bryce or he retires

2. Start Dalton for a few games, build some team chemistry and something, anything positive. Have Plummer get some meaningful reps and tutoring from Dalton. Have the line gel behind an NFL caliber qb.

3. play competitive ball. Probably still lose, but don’t look like losers.

Right now, we have a bunch of dudes who know that they’re not losers, but they sure feel like they are. If Canales can find a way to turn that around before they accept losing, then we have something in him.

I think Canales has to go through the motions to “”give Bryce every chance to improve”. I think this lasts until week 4/5 max.

He has weapons and protection. All the excuses from last year are gone.

DaveC can still be a QB whisperer. Can still work with Bryce on all sorts of improvements

Can still pull Bryce from the starter position when he does this.  Both can be true at the same time

Harbaugh probably wanted to head back out west. Remember he was supposed to be the Vikings head coach two years ago and it just like…didn’t happen.

Vrabel is exactly what this team needs but tepper would never tolerate him.

    • I definitely respect your opinion more than Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, and Carmelo Anthony (whom I just watched on their show, all saying NOBODY wants to get the Hornets in the post-season). You win.
    • For all the good feelings about Bryce Young, when you read between the lines, it's what DC says and doesn't say that makes us know that Bryce hasn't necessarily been the supercomputer that they thought he would be. This season, Bryce has to make a tangible progression on the field. "A big part of it is being able to operate at the line of scrimmage — not in the huddle — when we want to, and he’s certainly capable of that," Canales said about Young. "It’s not solely on him. It’s a group that’s pretty young. You have to trust all the guys to go up there, communicate verbally or nonverbally and execute what we’re doing. We’ve made huge strides in that regard. His ability to alter things based on what they’re giving you will give us another edge, which he’s continued to grow and had some great examples down the stretch where he identified things they were doing, got us to the right check and capitalized on some plays. Want to see him do that more when it’s appropriate. We don’t need to be changing things just to change it." The implications, perhaps insinuations, are pretty evident. Bryce is just going to have to do better. "And then for Bryce, it’s the identification of early on the cues that the defense are giving us, to be able to eliminate parts of your progression before the ball’s even snapped. That happens with time. I’ve seen quarterbacks really own and master, which allows them to play lightning fast." Obviously Bryce isn't necessarily picking things up as fast as Canales would like, and I can only assume that Canales is making comparisons to Russell Wilson, Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield. But, of course, not everyone picks things up at the same rate. Bryce's pace has left Canales wanting for more. During the coming season, I don't believe that it will be good enough for Bryce to start putting things together in December, evidence of the light switch being on is going to have to show itself in September. Basically, it's really the moment that we've all been waiting for, the one that we thought should've happened earlier, the one that brings Bryce's accountability in the spotlight. On an off note, perhaps to that end, we should consider the possible implications upon the draft, but that's another story. Basically, it's time for Bryce to sh¡t or get off the pot. https://roundtable.io/sports/nfl/panthers/news/carolina-panthers-dave-canales-holds-nothing-back-on-bryce-young-in-new-interview
