Not sure how being bottom 10 in passing justifies so much confidence..

that's going to be a hard sell for some, but i'm buying it.

There's only four or five people left on here that poo on everything Bryce does so it's not that bad on here anymore. Hopefully he continues to improve his game. He's not an mvp candidate but he's playing better and deserves the chance to start next year.

The best thing for this team is Bryce playing well and showing he can be a good qb in the league so that we don't have to go back into qb purgatory

For anyone curious his new passer rating puts him right between Aiden O'Connell and Andy Dalton.

I'm happy he's improving but maybe we should keep things in perspective here.

O'Connell just had a game so ugly he got benched for Desmond Ridder. Andy Dalton was so bad we had to go back to Bryce. I mean to consider this is as good news for our first overall pick is a very low bar even for this franchise.

And Stroud is a 87.9. If he can get closer to Stroud it’s a win right? Look he is trending in the right direction. It’s encouraging. Hopefully he keeps it up and gets better.

Frank, that's the point. So do you really think Bryce has been playing just below "being benched" level? Honestly? That's what you see in the last 4 weeks? There are a LOT of things going on that he can't control and there are not 20 QBs playing better than Bryce in the NFL right now.

Stroud finished 6th in the NFL in passer rating as a rookie.

I want the same thing anyone else wants if Bryce is the QB of the future that's fantastic. But his body of work will be judged as if he is a first overall pick not some small school QB we took a mid to late round flyer on.

Let's just agree to disagree.

I also think the "eye test" is kinda weighted against Bryce's game.  If he's going to be great in this league his accuracy will have to make up for his disadvantages and reliably. It won't be as flashy as an Anthony Richardson highlight reel.

No one should be asking this if they watched him play at the start of the year. It wasn't just bad play it looked like he didn't know how to play QB at all.. this is lightyears better

He is light year better than he was.  But to say he is suddenly top 20 qb in the league is a far far stretch.  He is way way better thsn he was but still would put him where his qbr had him around 25th out of 32 qbs in nfl.  But he could improve just at this moment he is what he is.

And just an FYI. Kyle Allen had 255.5 yards per game in 2019. That would make him 6th in the NFL this season.

With that in mind would you agree it's worth noting that the comparative improvements Bryce Young has made the last 5 games as a passer are in the midst of what is clearly a rare down year for passing as a whole?

Umm ok but we are talking about recent play? I think Stroud is a great QB and if Young can get close to playing like him currently that’s a win IMO. Baby steps here.

So it’s a down year for passers AKA defenses are playing better against the pass with the 2 high. So Bryce is developing into a better passer in a year where defenses are playing better? I’m confused about the argument here?

I don't think the low passing yardage is a direct reflection of defensive improvement as much as it is that teams are running the ball a lot more. There are still teams airing it out there were 7 QB's with over 300 passing yards last Sunday.

And let's be honest. There was much talk of how good both the Chiefs and Eagles defenses were before we played them and both looked largely meh.

Clearly this conversation boils down to a difference in viewpoint. Some people see this through only a lens that Bryce Young has "improved" and nothing else. Others see it through a viewpoint that while he has improved there are other circumstances to consider.

If Bryce is truly taking grown man steps forward then he will put up even more impressive numbers in the coming weeks. Right now he is realistically in the 25 out of 32 range and we are considering that an upgrade.

    • You literally did it right there and didn't even remember it. Sorry long Friday.
    • TMac to finish up Feels good after pads came on. Physicality is a little different, playstyle is a little different. Refs let the players play, so he has to earn his stripes to get calls and just has to be better playing through contact. Focusing on staying confident and listening to coaches. Not much has changed for him, still trying to be his authentic self. Was asked about boxing practice he was seen doing. He's done that since he was a kid because his dad was a boxer and taught his siblings. Was the youngest and got beat up the most, but now he's the fourth of sixth children. Boxing helps with his cardio and being reactive with his hands to the ball + DB. Admits to struggling the first couple of days, hats off to the DB corps for making him better every single day but had his best day on Wednesday. Even the best get got. Just have to remain confident in preparation and abilities. Confidence will take you only so far, and that's where his resilience plays a factor. XL is authentic and great to have in the room. Can rely on him to be the same guy every day. They make each other better. Everybody feeds off of each other and when one person wins they all win. Happy to be a part of the receiver room. Was asked about how he was laughing harder than everybody else at XL getting his feet in the water off the back of the boat: "Man he needs to be stopped bro... He can't be serious but he was serious. It's all good." Playing against the increased amount of press he's facing in practice is helping him get more physical. His job is to catch the ball, so if it touches his hand he has to come down with it. Only catches with one hand if he needs to, but that gives the QB a bigger catch radius. Had a pregame routine where he did a 360 one-handed catch, but doesn't do it anymore. Working on being a pro: Getting into the facility early and getting treatment, eating better, etc. Just wants to win re: rookie goals. Anything he can do to help the team win. "I'm looking for to the season man and keep pounding."
    • DJ Wonnum up next Felt the defense came out ready to work at all levels and took over practice. New standard around here. Young guys have to know they're coming in to work. Last year was not the standard. Nic and Princely are fun. Different personalities but loves what they bring to the room. Sky is the limit for them. Nic sits next to Wonnum, Princeley sits next to Jones II. Allows them to be better mentors. Feels great and ready to go Incoom's athleticism allows him to bend and get low even to compensate for not being the biggest guy. Can set the edge. EDGE guys are helped when the ILBs can get home because it allows them to be a little more free while still in scheme. DB being back means his dominance is back. Can set the edge from the 3 or wherever he's at to make the runs bounce to the EDGE guys. Winning mentality and standard this year. Championship level from practice to how you live off of the field. Accept greatness and excellence with guys wanting to come to work every day. Not settling for anything less. Been in guys' shoes that are fighting for roster spots so he knows how to address them. Remembers not knowing what's next, especially as a rookie. Have a clear mind and ask the older guys a lot of questions. Has a good relationship already with Pat Jones II due to knowing each other and talking football all of the time. Can make hand gestures and know immediately what to adjust. Taking care of his body and excited to start the season. Getting it acclimated to football again by being able to tackle and bring players to the ground. Didn't know they were playing live tomorrow. Don't tell me it'll be "thud." Browns next week will allow them to hit somebody else and get a feel of what a different team is doing. Also allows the team to see where they're at on offense and defense. Ready to play football. Not worried about the QB matchup for Cleveland, going to play hard regardless of who is back there.
