All of Bryce’s weapons that left the team

This is not a secret anymore and anyone still talking growth or next year is just clowning themselves.

He showed growth and progression for 5 straight games prior to last week.  I think next few games will  be telling, but I'm not sure what his ceiling may be.   All I'm saying is he did some really good things, showed that he can play against the blitz, carry the team on game tying or potential game winning drives... the jury is still out.  I wish he would have had Tank Dell, Nico Collins, Hunter Henry, Malik Nabers and other young receivers to be fairly evaluated.

I was out on Bryce after week 2 because he looked like he was ruined, no confidence, scared of the pressure, not keeping his eyes downfield.  Even in the loss last week he didn't seem to revert back to that mindset despite the turnovers.  I think he needs at least one more weapon in addition to Coker hopefully being the next Puka Nacua.

I agree with the coaching part. The Pats' offensive roster sucks. Only one TE worth keeping. The WRs leave a helluva lot to be desired, and the O-line is abysmal.

Agreed, Drake Maye is an example where size, ability to run,  and having a strong arm allows you to overcome more obstacles just like Cam Newton.  Of all the QBs drafted this year, he has the most upside and I think will have the most success long term if the Pats can figure our their roster issues.

Nobody disagrees with having competition

Well I'm glad we can see eye to eye on that but it appears there are still other people not convinced.

I see the Bryce situation as this. First season the team around him was bad. He was also quite bad too. Second season we went the extra mile and then some via steep investment in free agency and the draft to attempt to solve this dilemma and to the detriment of the defensive roster in the meantime.

Now fast forward to 14 games into the season and we've spent a significant amount of discussion on both the defense that we put on the back burner for Bryce Young and the additions we brought in. Some of that is logical. But we have to circle back to where this all began. Bryce was billed as a franchise changing QB who would not need elite talent across the board. That cannot be stressed enough. So to me these discussions about his supporting cast or lack thereof eventually lead to me asking when does he begin elevating those around him instead of the other way around? That's what a first overall pick is supposed to do.

I was out on him before we ever picked him and I'm still right. He should be traded in the offseason and his 'improvement' as remedial as it is should help with that is the positive. He isn't it and the growth is going nowhere. He doesn't have it and there isn't a team in the league that's talented enough to make him look good.

Just because he isn't racing Russel for biggest bust ever doesn't change the fact of how bad he is and what his limited game he can play does to the offense. 2 years the opponents have played down to the Panthers and for 2 years that is a reason for false hope. And then games happen like on Sunday when a opponent shows up hurt and angry and shows the reality of the situation. It's a dead end.

With Bryce they had combined for

127 rec, 1317 yds, 5 TD

Combined stats after Bryce

 21 rec, 163 yds, 0 TD

But yeah Bryce is the problem for not being a good enough point guard.

Poor Bryce

Life is just so unfair

sick of this justification

#1 picks  should be a bit more than a game manager and a ‘point guard’   Totally stupid take by the Panthers

Dont fret, he will have $38 million to make up for all the injustices he has endured

He, his family and agent, all were  also smart enough to fleece the Gm and owner of the Panthers

Bill Parcells said it best when said about Young as the number 1 pick given his ohysical limitations in a big man’s game

‘he better walk in water’   He doesnt

i want Josh Allen, not a point guard who cant see over the line and cant throw a 50 yard pass to the end zone

michah parson showed clearly what Young is  that Cowboys  defense had ZERO fear of Young’s arm   We have seen that since he has been here

I guess last few games he did just that, elevated the players around him and made them competitive in close games which they should have won if not for mistakes of the defense or supporting cast. At some point you have to have starting level talent even if they're not all pro.  The future looks promising with Coker, JT, and maybe even XL but they're rookies.  Barring a significant upgrade being available to us in the draft or free agency, I'm willing to play it out another year.  This team is not a QB away anyway.

Maybe, or maybe they're also not scared of the receivers they're facing.  I don't know that we saw a bunch of receivers open downfield that Young is not able to hit.

The issue is any progress Bryce Young has made over the course of his short career thus far has been one step forward two steps back.

At the end of the season we will have 28 starts between this season and last from which to evaluate him. And the above is to me the best you can say on his behalf when logically assessing that game tape.

If we judge him on his performance since he got benched.

How is one bad game two steps back if he progressed for 5-6 weeks straight?

Again the thing you are continually missing is the context of where he was and how he was playing.  He was playing literally like the worst qb in the history of the nfl.  He got benched and then was playing yes better but its relative to where he was.   Yeah he made some nice throws  but there was far more blah in there then a franchise qb.  But keep making excuses as this is the second day in a row you have started a thread contorting things trying to defend him.  Its comical.

He is getting next year.  I think we all see that but it would be retarded for them not to create competition for the off season and training camp.  He is not owed the job outright

No doubt, Drake Maye looks like the better prospect and I always thought he would project well to the NFL ever since I saw him 3 years ago at Carolina.  But he's also in a better situation both in terms of roster and coaching his first year.

I’m not sure his roster is any better than Bryce’s was last year. NE is a pretty bad team. Coaching, sure he has more stability there.

I'm interested to see what Bryce does the rest of the season. I think unless we are top 2 there isn't a QB to pick anyway. I could see us taking a flyer on Cousins next year with Bryce and maybe a 2nd or 3rd round guy. I like Ewers in the late second or Kyle McCord in the 4th or so. But I'm not sure the long term answer is on the team right now, and for that matter next year either. Which is a bummer. Bryce does have thr power in his hands over thr next 3 weeks give himself a chance though. We will see if he sinks or swims.

    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
    • My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
