Bryce Young May Be The Answer

I’m happy that he is no longer is playing historically bad. I’m also happy that the team is looking better. He’s thrown a good number of perfect balls that guys have dropped.

I don’t think Bryce is the answer at QB. I think his ceiling is under an acceptable level of play for a franchise QB. I’m happy to be wrong as long as it benefits the team. I’d much rather trade him than pay a starting QB salary to him.

He makes special plays but passes for less then 50 yards

If you look at the statistics it can be deceiving. He made critical plays when he had to. I had rather have a win if he only had 50 yards passing than a loss and a 300 yard game. He is gaining more confidence. It has been a long time since the Panthers scored 36 points.

Today he missed a wide open pass to the flat that would have sealed the game in the fourth. He then tripped on third down in overtime. And even his td drive in the fourth was sandwiched by three and outs.

don’t worry about Bryce young throwing for 300 yards. He’s done it once and it was last season.

the panthers scored 36 points in September of this year.

Yes, and the kicker missed an extra point that would have won it without overtime. I have not read anything about him. If I remember on the trip Christensen stepped back into him.

Yes, and the refs gifted the Panthers a TD on their first drive.

it is a useless exercise to point to something in the first quarter that would have changed every other decision that occurred after it unless you’re literally trying to wrap your head around causality for the first time.

It is also useless to point out every flaw in a quarterback in his 2nd year without critiquing players around him for their mistakes. I had about decided Bryce was not the answer when he was benched for 2 games. With the improved play as of late he deserves a fair chance.

What chance he’s getting is more than fair, seeing he’s basically the least productive qb in nfl history who’s been given this long a leash.

the only player who did as poorly as him his first season in the modern era was Josh Rosen and he was immediately shipped out of town. Bryce was given an entirely new offensive line, an entire new coaching staff, they brought a first round wide receiver, they brought in a big young tight end, they tried to trade for another wr but he has schizophrenia.

Nothing at all unfair had happens to Bryce. Do not say a “fair chance” about a guy who’s done so little and been given so much.

It’s sad that so many want him to fail.

Has Bryce lit the world on fire? No

Has he improved? Yes

Has he elevated those around him? I'd argue yes

Has he made costly mistakes? Last game for sure, this game no.

Is he a finished product? No

Last year he was unwatchable and terrible.

He was just as bad if not worse the first 2 games of the year. I had written him off and wanted him gone.

Now I am cautiously optimistic. Since his benching He looks consistently better than 1/3 of the current starting qbs. Does he need work? Yes. But so do his weapons.

    • no doubt but flip that.   The current system insures that there are "regional" games in the early weeks. maximizing the reach of playoff football.  If all of the WC weekend for a conference took place on the west coast they are reducing the "reach" of their hype machine.
    • Hard to say with London--he never ran--combine or pro day.  Here is what AI says, and it is always 100% accurate: Drake London's 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine was not recorded because he was dealing with a fractured ankle at the time. While he didn't participate in the 40 at the Combine or his pro day, his coach said his 40 time was estimated to be between 4.4 and 4.53 seconds. Some sources also list his 40 time at 4.58 and 4.6 seconds Unless you are running 9s all day, top end 40 speed is rarely reached.  I have always looked at the 3-cone drill.  At his pro day, TMac ran a 6.86--pretty good, actually.  For context, it is faster that Rome Odunze (6.88) who ran a 4.45 40.  Odunze is 6'3" and weighs 216, fwiw, and is considered a very good route runner with no wasted motion.  Mike Evans 3-cone was 7.08.  To put it in a broader context, through 2022, with all NFL prospect 3-cone drills combined, a 6.86 puts TMac in the.89th percentile-  Now consider the fact that he is 6'4" and 220.   We might have something here.  '
