Early NFL offseason chatter

Regarding the Slowik news...

Slowik and Canales don't have any common history that I know of offhand, but I haven't done any research on it.

Also not sure that we have any offensive coaching positions open outside of adding a consultant or something of that sort.

(we do have a couple of defensive staff positions available, but that's not his thing)

Thoughts?

Panthers culture is a moron.   Come here in what capacity?

From what I'm gathering from Texans fans, they hated Slowik and are very glad he's gone. Why? I can't seem to nail down exact reasons other than being unwilling to adjust, and some general grumbling about the offense from a few Texans players. The current staff already got Bryce off the ground and playing a lot better, and so I don't see Slowik being that helpful there. Finally, I don't see Canales relinquishing playcalling duties except maybe someone already within his circle that he trusts, not really some guy from the outside he doesn't really know.

Their fans it appears are blaming him for the Dell injury which is moronic at best

No idea. Nothing I know of is open.

Pretty sure he was just an assistant to an assistant or something lower level. Doubt Slowik wants to go that far down the ladder

It's funny after last season all you read was how bs worked with stroud created an offense that fit him Yada Yada Yada and now the oline completely let's him down.  A ton of injuries and they still won a game and got robbed at kc and he is fired.   Something ain't adding up

I haven't looked closely enough at that situation to form an opinion.

Maybe personnel was the problem, maybe injuries, maybe Stroud regressed, maybe this, maybe that...or maybe Slowik really was just a one year flash in the pan.

Hell, even Mike Shula looked like an offensive genius for one season. Gotta be consistent to prove it, though.

Nate Carroll was our Passing Game Coordinator.

Yeah I don't think so either but it's an opening

This is a worse hire than Prime. Cowboys are doomed until Jerry is gone. They have talent but the coaching hires are so uninspiring.

It’s strikes me that Jerry wants another Jason Garrett like head coach. Someone that won’t upset the apple cart or make great demands. You’re probably correct that they won’t see real success again until Jerry is gone, perhaps like Washington since Synder sold up.

Someone was saying on Twitter how Slowik moved away form the 21 personnel to the 11 personnel because of the Diggs acquisition and when Nico went down it was bad news bears trying to run 3 receivers and poo really hit the fan when Diggs went out later.

Someone had to take the fall for strouds regression.  Fair or not, time will tell.

Seemed like a pretty classic case of the sophomore slump to me.  I wouldn’t be too worried about it unless Stroud doesn’t bounce back next season.

    • Yep he made the comment " I dont know what they were doing out there at that point" in the press conference. Let's be real they all got paid but they also know his system suppresses there offensive potential.
    • Yup the casuals on Facebook ive gotten 85 laughing or angry emojis so far for pointing it out.  The amount of them throwing a fit because the canes were booed is insane
    • Why are you so fixated on yards? Even if yards were a good judge of QB play, his low yardage totals in some of those games were partly a function of drops (looking at you Xavier Leggette…).  I’m not advocating that Bryce was elite for the last half of last year, but the eye test certainly supported high level QB play for large stretches. He made a lot of high difficulty, put it on the money/drop in the bucket throws. He converted on 3rd and 4th down, kept drives moving, and put the team in position to win games. And it’s not on him that the defense blew it late after he led game tying drives, Leggette dropped a game winning TD, or Chuba fumbled the ball in OT. We could have finished the season close to .500 with wins against 3 playoff teams including KC and Philly during that stretch largely due to Bryce’s play.    Has he sustained this level of play long enough to deserve an higher ranking? No. But for judging based in that stretch alone, he would. But whether he can perform more consistently at that level or build on that, and thus earns a higher ranking, remains to be seen.
