S Fowler take on Young and echoes of Newton

Bryce can be the franchise QB CLT desperately needs. I believe a top 10 QB if he plays like he did towards the end, but Canales has to keep evolving too for that to continue. He did real good for a 1st year 1st time HC. If we see fans attend off-season things for the Panthers, especially when Bryce is there, that means the confidence in a turn around is high with people, and that's good news for everyone.

Anyone (and there are a lot) who hoped our next qb would be Cam v2.0 will continue to be disappointed unless they accept Bryce. The way he finished the season… he’s here to stay. He ain’t going anywhere.

There will forever be comparisons between the 2, and they all will be unfair. The circumstances both found themselves in couldn’t be more different. Their styles couldn’t be more different. The loyalty towards one or the other quickly obscures what really matters…. Winning football games by a large margin. How it happens, don’t care. Does X QB help this TEAM win football games. The way Bryce wins games is the polar opposite to Cam, and it will forever be that way.

I’m a panthers fan who is beginning to really like Bryce Young’s game. I liked Cam. I liked Cam’s game, but that era is long gone. I’d love to see 2003 played out again (but win the SB this time) but that’s gone too. Never be another Jake. Never be another Cam. Comparisons are unfair. Go Panthers.

Y'all gone get me. I know. But Bryce is a better passer/ game manager than Cam ever was - at least how he's playing now or in the last 10 games. Cam was a big play guy. His size and physical dominance allowed him to take chances most QBs could never pull off. Bryce is a game manager with some sick moves in the open field. He plays within himself. The similarities, as of late, is the swag. Cam is larger than life, figuratively and literally, on and off the field. Bryce is a Reaper on the field and Clark Kent off.

I think the better comparison is to Jake, not Cam.  They are all very different personalities and to expect Bryce to be a 'larger than life' personality like Cam is unrealistic.  Bryce just has to find his own way and style of leadership in the huddle.

If Bryce can become a better version of Jake, he will rightfully take his place among the top Panther QB's.

Is this another one of those eye test situations, because the stats don’t show this; especially when looking at how they compare in completion % through their first two years in the league. They’re similar, with Cam taking more intermediate and deep shots down the field.

Yep. Eye test. Cam had a lot more to work with. A lot more. Makes everything easier. Even Cam acknowledged this when discussing Bryce Young.

Not even a week into the offseason and now Bryce Young is a better passer than Cam Newton.

And people come here wailing about not being able to rationally discuss our QB.

I can agree with that, but that also means that we should see a decent spike in percentage, upwards, from Bryce when he gets his receiver pieces(if he is, in fact, the better passer - more accurate). That completion percentage should go up quite a bit. Bryce has had the better o line.

Hahaha...

Better arm? Heck no. Not even close. Cam had a damn Mk 45 on his right shoulder.

Better anticipation? Better touch? Better accuracy? The last 10 games, yep. We all complained about that Cam's entire career. Remember how we thought he finally improved so much in those areas under Norv Turner?

I agree.

But just want to say that Bryce's oline isn't necessarily better than Cam's rookie oline. Better than the crap in 2014? Of course. That was comparable to last year's line. Immediate pressure from inside and outside.

But honestly it shouldn't be close. Bryce should beat him as a pure passer. He better beat him as a pure passer, because Cam was so much more than that. He's one of the best dual threat QBs in NFL history. Like top 3. He's one of the best short yardage backs to ever play - QB, TB or FB.

To be clear even though they had some rough spots the 2024 Carolina Panthers oline was one of the best units we've had in a long time. For all the talk of Icky's struggles he's by no means Byron Bell let's not get it twisted here.

Everyone knows Cam was never known for his accuracy. Newton's career completion % was 59.9 and Bryce Young currently sits at 60.3. Surely we are looking to bring that number up a great deal.

Eye test is significant because Bryce is clearly playing with confidence and comfortable but it still matters when and where you see this. Unfortunately for Bryce Young and the rest of our offense our upcoming opponents this year will not be as bad as the 2024 Falcons passing defense which was #2 to us at #1 in touchdowns allowed.

There's much work to do and prove before making determinations about who is a better passer than who in Panthers lore at this point in time.

    • Sellers has bust written all over him..unless he goes to a team that can afford to sit him where he can learn the game and develop without the pressure of starting immediately. Not sure that is the Panthers. If we do go rookie in the draft, he can't be viewed as a day 1 starter. He does have potential, but I think it is going to have to be a handle-with-care situation.
    • Nothing will change with the qb situation until Tepper is convinced Young is not viable. Until that point, it will be Young. During that time, any shortcomings of Young will be because he does not have the necessary supporting cast, and/or coaches are failing him with faulty schemes and defective gameplans.  So, until Tepper is out, Young is in.
    • Young is the kind of QB who will go as far as the team drags him 90% of the time. And once in a long while he'll explode and light the opposing team up. That is not anywhere near where we need to be as a team. What' worse is that we've won way too many games this season due to an extremely easy schedule. So we can't select a top QB in the draft, and a free agent QB is usually not the answer.  The Panthers fell victim to a long stretch of bad QBs coming out of college. Even if we had made different moves and selected any number of different QBs coming out, we still would have ended up with a bust most likely. Bryce is a bust. Tua is a bust. Zach Wilson? Yikes. Trey Lance. Justin Fields. Mac Jones. Kenny Picket. CJ Stroud. My point is that a lot of teams were devastated by this stretch of bad QBs coming out of college, but we were dumb enough to trade the farm for one of them.  The smart move? Tale the 2 first round picks from the Rams for Burns, and keep CMC. Sit tight. Whatever QB falls in your lap in the draft, take him. Then use the other two first round picks to build up the o-line on the cheap. This isn't Morning GMing. I said take the Rams deal at the time. We have not had a good GM ever in franchise history.  No more trading up for QBs. Clearly is a total guessing game. Stay put. Trade vets for draft picks and start the rebuilding process with a new GM and new coaches. Cut Bryce and bring him back on a vet min deal. Then cut him again for being trash. He's done here if I had any say.
