Because Bryce likes having Dalton around. Seems to be a good mentor to him. Plus, why replace a mediocre backup QB with another mediocre QB? If BY goes down we’re screwed regardless of who our backup is

That's not true at all.  And a 3rd year #1 draft pick captain of the team should not need a mentor

I don't think this says anything about Bryce. I think it was already obvious we're going into next year with Bryce as starter, but if he doesn't silence all questions this year I think the plans at QB may shift, especially if we have a high pick in 2026. I suppose I still wouldn't rule out Cam Ward this draft but that seems highly highly unlikely.

Dalton is a solid backup at that price whether it's Bryce or someone else in the room with him. Honestly, not even a terrible bridge starter either if Bryce sucks next year and we move on but don't want to throw a rookie QB in '26 to the wolves.

Panthers re-signed QB Andy Dalton to a two-year, $8 million contract with $6 million in guarantees.
Dalton briefly started for the Panthers in 2024, finishing with a 989/7/6 passing line in five starts before a car accident left him out long enough for Bryce Young to take the reins again. Young shockingly re-established himself as a starting option going forward down the stretch, leaving Dalton to the backup duties. Over his last five seasons as a backup, Dalton has thrown for 7,906 yards, 49 touchdowns, and 32 interceptions in 35 starts. He’ll turn 38 in October. He is probably a mid-level backup quarterback at this point in his career, but Dalton is now at an age where a potential regression is firmly in play each season. This is a fine contract for that level of player.

    • They are 1 and 9 against the  Bucs in the past 10 games. the Panthers go as young goes.  QB1 ‘s are suppose to dictate and overcome  and elevate Everything the QB does affects every part of the team and Bryce is uneven. Canales and Bryce have  an uneven relationship too  as for Evero, the only thing that might save him is the injury to Baker’s left shoulder and oline injuries. I don’t even know how he is out there   I really feel their season ended last Sunday Canales’ division record isn’t great   Getting owned by the Saints and Bucs isn’t a good look
    • Frankly surprised by the amount of people that want to hang Evero. This was a defense that was almost universally considered the bottom of the barrel before this season started. We’ve managed to stat our way to the middle of the pack whatever that means. Those critical of the zone schemes, what do you want? When even JC is getting burnt one on one by Olave you have little choice. There definitely have been moments where the zone blitz stuff has bit us. That said, are the third string linebackers (and nick Scott) covering poo anyway? This unit had only conceded 10 points going into the fourth quarter despite a litany of bullshit penalties on both sides. Them over performing is the biggest reason we are still in playoff contention.
