Ø Person notes the team would like to re-sign LB Sam Franklin, TE Tommy Tremble, and WR David Moore on short-term deals.

Ø Meanwhile, CB Mike Jackson, S Xavier Woods, P Johnny Hekker, and OL Brady Christensen will likely hit free agency.

Ø The team has already re-signed QB Andy Dalton and LS J.J. Jansen, however, they are letting LB Shaq Thompson hit free agency and Person believes they could do the same with TE Ian Thomas and K Eddy Pineiro

Mike Jackson is the lone surprise.  I’d rather see him stay but I’m guessing it’s a numbers game.  Just don’t have the funds to sign him and extend Horn.

Same thought.  I think they probably want to keep Jackson but the numbers may end up being prohibitive.

I like him but don’t want to pay too much.

Don't know that it's as much that as it is comparing what it'd take to sign him vs. other options they may prefer on the open market. And obviously the draft is an option. I still expect him back eventually.

He is a CB who is good but not that good IMO. With a healthy Horn just find another one if he is looking for bigger money than he is worth. I don't even know of he wants to be here anyways.

I was talking about Ian Thomas lol.  Mike Jackson is as good as gone.  He's going to get overpaid.

But in all seriousness I thought I saw something that said the team expected to let Thomas walk.

Hahahaha. I don't even want Thomas back at any price

Heading into the combine, the Athletic's Panthers beat reporter Joe Person is expecting that the team will move on from three vets: long-time linebacker Shaq Thompson, kicker Eddy Pineiro and tight end Ian Thomas.

It links to the same article in the OP but I don't have a subscription to see which interpretation is more accurate as to whether Person thinks the Panthers "could" move on from Ian Thomas (as Juan characterized) or whether Person expects the Panthers to move on from Ian Thomas (as SI characterized).

Christensen would be nice but he obviously wants to test the market. Between him being gone, the center spot, Icky still a bit of an uncertainty and Moton’s age, I really think the OL should be given some love via draft to develop our next starters. Stay ahead, don’t let a strength become a weakness.

D wise- Jackson is the surprise but maybe we target some DBs in the market - there’s some interesting ones this year. Offense this FA is kind of trash but defensively, DB talent is there.

Also- For being a more well known safety, Xavier Woods had one of the quietest 2+ year starting tenures I think I’ve ever seen here.

OL screams 4th round pick this year to me. High enough to get a solid prospect, but not so high that it hurts us too bad if he doesn't pan out.

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
