He feels were mediocre

Carolina Panthers: I told Panthers coach Jon Fox at the scouting combine this year that if he can win eight games with this team, then he should be coach of the decade, not of the year. He cordially laughed, but in that laugh I could sense a level of confidence that he would win at least eight games. But how can he win eight games with this roster? He lost his best rusher (Julius Peppers), and must rely on Everette Brown to fill the void. Furthermore, he has two offensive tackles coming off of injuries, he lost a starting linebacker in offseason camps, he does not have a dependable second wide receiver, he has two very young players at quarterback, and he has a coaching staff working on one-year deals, with no guarantee of his own future. Fox is an extremely good head coach who knows how to feature the strength of his team and play effective red-zone defense. Will that be enough to win eight games? Maybe, but not enough to be a playoff team

Although he does give credit to the 49ers for their late season run and seems impressed with Alex Smith. Yet he's skeptical of our late season run and Matt Moore. Seems a little inconsistent.

Overall though he did a good job though. Mainly because he didn't try to say anything that profound. Still better than these guys who spew doody that's 10x worse than what you could ever hear at the Barber shop.

Smith was a #1 overall pick. That always inflates people's evaluations of a QB. The logic is that since he was drafted first overall, he has to be good, right?

Heck, even here, when we got David Carr there were people who were dead certain he'd be the guy we needed. One of the most often cited reasons was "he was a #1 overall pick".

Alex smith has been around, teams know his strength and weaknessess. Matt Moore is a relatively new commodity.

The problem I have with Smith it that team basically runs the spread offense so Alex can play.

With Michael Crabtree, Josh Morgan, Vernon Davis, Arnez Battle, Ted Gin Jr. not to mention Frank Gore and Glenn Coffee and a much improved O-line that O better put up big points and win the division.

If a quarterback can't win that division with that talent then he needs to leave the NFL. Plus their defense aint to shabby either.

i can accept his assessment of the panthers. it wasn't too much and it wasn't too little. he projects us at a very reasonable place - around 8-8. he nodded to the fact that fox has confidence in this bunch, and his question marks are warranted questions, who will the new pass rush be and how will our young QBs handle everything?

      Yeah, Moehrig in likely passing situations as a LB/DB hybrid role seems like a better approach then Rozeboom/Wallace.

      This thread was a fun re-read, and not to toot my own horn, but I'd say I was pretty spot on with the things I was saying about both T-Mac and Hunter, like eerily so.  I really wish I had kept a bunch of screenshots/links to all the arguments I got into with people over the last 2 years over T-Mac, would just be fun to look back on them and laugh. To your post though, it's wild that any NFL GM couldn't see this being the case as 90% of fans out there could see it from a mile away, it really was just common sense, you can't be a full time 2 way player in the NFL today, and he's a better CB than WR, always was. The fact that they traded a future 1st and a 2nd in that draft to move up to take a CB and part time WR is beyond comical, and even if he ends up a great player, is more than likely going to be looked back on as a terrible trade by them.  Two 1st's and a 2nd to take a CB is just asinine, I'm not sure there has ever been a CB who was worth that, even the peak years of Revis or someone like Asomugha weren't worth that, let alone a full career of play.

      This. The Micah Parsons situation is an anomaly and it takes a moron with a gigantic ego like Jerry Jones to pull it off. The vast majority of these superstar/organization showdowns end up with a massive extension getting inked after a bunch of talking and posturing during the negotiation process with everyone trying to get the best deal from their perspective that they can and then everyone making up in the end - basically the Lamar contract situation. That's the normal process of how those situations play out and why everyone just assumed the Parsons situation would follow the same path but then Jerruh gonna Jerruh. LOL
