giving up the opportunity to make 40 mil more just a year later would have been a terrible decision.  even if he got hurt again last year he could have easily gotten 15 on the open market.   and his dad is Joe Horn, he's not broke.

If he had gotten hurt for the year last season, dude is playing on the club option 5th year or getting offered a cheap multi-year contract. If he gets hurt the club option year, he will be getting closer to vet minimum since he proved he couldn't stay healthy 4 consecutive seasons.

Just saying that it wasn't crazy to offer him last offseason and see how close they could get on numbers. Now we paid a dude that has maybe played in 50% of our games a $100 million contract....

The dude isn't getting 15 million open market on 3 consecutive injury-riddled seasons. And just because his dad has money doesn't mean he has money...

hes gonna pay on the club 5th year option anyways.  The extension starts in 2026.  a CB with his potential would def get more than vet min.  laughable.

and whos to say they didnt offer him last year?  just means hes not dumb enough to accept it if they did.

You think an NFL team would give him a 4 year, $60 million contract if Horn played less than half of the team's games in 4 consecutive seasons due to injury? I don't think a team would even offer him a 1 year, $15 million contract unless very little of it was guaranteed and/or it was filled with injury clauses

Someone would have leaked it if they were working on a contract last year. Not a peep from anyone tells me that they didn't, and I get it. Panthers didn't want to give out a new contract if he got hurt last year and Horn was banking on staying healthy last year so he could get Surtain level money.

I think both sides just played a shut up and wait and see approach. It worked out for Horn

u think, you dont know.  no one knows except them.  and whatever... your assertion they could have had for for less a year ago is a remarkably unserious take that assumes he would have accepted if they offered.  its a ridiculous assumption.

Just like you think and don't know...

Anyways, this is a pretty pointless back and forth. Hopefully Horn stays healthy so we don't have to regret this contract

This was not a smart move, IMO.

If you pay a guy like a top 10 at his position, he actually needs to be in the discussion for being that.

Once again, not being smart.

Isn’t he universally considered a top 5 corner?

Absolutely not.

I have never seen him mentioned even in the top 10 at CB.

He's very good but he has not played like an elite CB often, even when healthy. Also, he is technically coming off arguably his worst season statistically in his career. Nothing terrible but just far from elite.

Hence why I am bristling at the money. He really has to both stay healthy and very much improve his play.

It's not all his fault. The defense is ass and he isn't really playing in a scheme that takes advantage of him correctly, IMO.

    • Yep he made the comment " I dont know what they were doing out there at that point" in the press conference. Let's be real they all got paid but they also know his system suppresses there offensive potential.
    • Yup the casuals on Facebook ive gotten 85 laughing or angry emojis so far for pointing it out.  The amount of them throwing a fit because the canes were booed is insane
    • Why are you so fixated on yards? Even if yards were a good judge of QB play, his low yardage totals in some of those games were partly a function of drops (looking at you Xavier Leggette…).  I’m not advocating that Bryce was elite for the last half of last year, but the eye test certainly supported high level QB play for large stretches. He made a lot of high difficulty, put it on the money/drop in the bucket throws. He converted on 3rd and 4th down, kept drives moving, and put the team in position to win games. And it’s not on him that the defense blew it late after he led game tying drives, Leggette dropped a game winning TD, or Chuba fumbled the ball in OT. We could have finished the season close to .500 with wins against 3 playoff teams including KC and Philly during that stretch largely due to Bryce’s play.    Has he sustained this level of play long enough to deserve an higher ranking? No. But for judging based in that stretch alone, he would. But whether he can perform more consistently at that level or build on that, and thus earns a higher ranking, remains to be seen.
