by scheduling tough defensive teams in the preseason? (although I'm not sure how good the Titans defense is)

Seems to me that if we can't get consistency in preseason with our 1st string offense, we aren't going to do well in the regular. Plus all of them are playoff caliber teams so we also have decent offenses as well to go against.

I think so. i feel better about putting 161 rushing yards on the Ravens, than if we put 161 on the rams

i say by the third preseason game, we should have a general idea where the team stands. Should do some game planning for that game. it's a wait and tell situation.

There are more 3-4 teams on our schedule than usual this year (5.5, Arizona is the .5). Our schedule is normally biased to 4-3 defenses because of our NFC South opponents. Ravens, Jets and Steelers are all good practice.

If we are vanilla, than they are vanilla. It doesn't matter who we play in the pre-season with the exception of three quarters in the third game. So no, going up against the Steelers and Jets and Ravens means next to nothing.
