Smith

Jarrett

LaFell

Moore

Edwards

Wright

There are your WRs that make it... Stop debating it...

Smitty - duh

Jarrett - cheap, experience in the system, and all indicators are that the light is finally on, good blocker, and makes catches in traffic with his frame

LaFell - big rookie investment, duh

Moore - Sure, he could be on the bubble a bit, but he is a company man and a very serviceable option... has special teams value in an emergency

Edwards - big time investment, and he'll need to have a chance to give us some returns (pun intended), will benefit from spot duty and gimmick plays

Wright - brought in for one reason, and that was special teams ability... Also has shown some receiving skills as an added bonus...

We'll have to keep an extra WR this year just out of the uncertainty for Jarrett (mostly fan based) and the inexperience of the rookies (not to mention they both need to bulk up a good amount)... Plus, if Smitty were to get hurt, we need at least some warm bodies out there capable of blocking for Double Trouble, with the threat of getting open for a passing play...

Well, Jarrett made huge 3rd down grabs last season.

Jarrett was the only one who did anything when it mattered on Thursday.

Funny how people only pay attention and give credit to negative talk about Jarrett and ignore his actual play in games and reports from coaches. Funny how people only want to buy into hype about others and ignore the fact they haven't proven anything on a field.

I am not saying Jarrett is great. There simply isn't anyone on this roster who has proven to be better.

And who made the most spectacular catch Thursday? Hint: it wasn't DJ.

Jarrett has to be more than just a 3rd down WR. If he cant be more this preseason, I dont see him making it.

What the hell do some of you expect from Jarrett with Jake being the QB back there?

Even the great exalted Moose saw his numbers drop or stay roughly similar after returning to the Panthers from an offense led by Hall of Famers Kyle Orton and Rex Grossman...

Moose saw his stats almost double when he came back to the Panthers; he had 570 yards receiving with Chicago in 2007, and 923 yards with Carolina in 2008.

I'm willing to acknowledge that Jake's poor play greatly diminished all of our receivers stats, but where was Jarrett in 2008 (his second year)?

There was nothing more for him to be with Moose on the roster the past couple seasons.

I agree. He has to prove he can be a #2 WR. IMO, he hasn't gotten the chance to legitimately prove whether he has it or not until this season.

I'll leave spectacular to Smitty. I just want reliable.

sitting behind Moose and watching one of the best offenses in the NFL.

there was nowhere for him to go. We were running the ball better than anyone and there would be no point to move to pass heavy formations with 3 WRs.

agreed. debate is pretty pointless. we'll be going with 6 WRs this year. doesn't matter that we haven't really done that before. they have been emphasizing all offseason that the passing game is going to be taking a more prominent role in the offense and they will need more bodies back there to find out who is going to be able to do the job.

consider this year to be an audition for the top receiving jobs in the future.

plus they had dj hackett switching places with jarrett on the active roster.

At this point what Jarrett did in year's past makes no sense to keep rehashing. Besides some of the logic for why it wasn't his fault and that he got no opportunity is simply ridiculous. Just like blaming Jake for Jarrett's issues is laughable as well.

The Panthers have been looking for a second and third receiver for years and Jarrett has been the highest draft pick we have spent on a receiver since Moose back in 1996 and Carruth in 1997.

But rather than going back and forth about the past, lets see what he does this year. He will never have a better chance to prove himself with no one in front of him plus he is in a contract year. Honeslty the past is just that and if he had a great season this year I would be willing to overlook all the problems in the past. And I don't think I would be alone.

2007 was a horrible year to come in as a rookie WR for the Panthers, as we had the oldest starting QB ever and a QB that wore gloves... I say that, paired with Jarrett's immaturity made 2008 or 2009 Jarrett's official rookie campaign...

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
