REPORT: Panthers like Mykel Williams

Tyler Warren...

If you have this many questions about pass rushers in the 1st round, none are worth it. Go with the sure thing. Help your young QB.

Yeah Warren and the CB Johnson seem a lot harder to fault for picking. It feels like 1 out of every 5 of these 1st round graded edges are going to work out.

Im not sure that nailing an edge would even put this team over the top, I hope we don’t feel pressured to draft for need.

Mason Graham gonna be a Panther

Honestly, I hope Graham falls (and could) to make this easy on Dan and not force a pick like this.  It just feels so much like the XL situation.

At this point, I'm almost trying to get so bent up about this to either accept it if it happens or be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't.  Lot's of time between the draft and now, but Mykel is the one EDGE talent I was hoping we would stay away from, even in a trade down.  I'm usually not vehemently against a particular prospect, but this kid gives me such heavy bust vibes and I hated watching him disappear for UGA.  Ankle or not.

Honestly, if we want effective, impact and leader just take Jahdae Barron and you get a dude we can play outside or at nickel. Like a Sainristil on roids that you can actually play on the outside.

If we’re serious about sure things, he’s probably one of the most best combinations of technically proficient, intangibles, ceiling and instant impact you’ll find. Playmaker too.

I honestly have been liking him over WJ with Johnson’s injury concerns and skills vs man.

Last thing I’ll say on this for a bit -

Give me Princely U over Mykel.

He has the length, athleticism, bend, burst, dip and pass rush repertoire. And production to back it up. Run defense is okay, better hands. I don’t know, not trying to act like some “I’m better than all scouts” type but this Mykel poo is not what I wanted to hear.

and edit - without the extra playoff game/same as TXAM, Mykel had 3 sacks this season and 7 TFL.  3.5 last season and only 7 TFL.  For those scared about production with Stewart, this kid has the same issue.

I'm in the same boat re: Williams. He underwhelmed last season, even considering the ankle issue... but if the team makes him the pick, while I'll be disappointed for a moment, he'll be a Panther and have my backing.

Would rather see the team try to move back and pick up an extra second rounder that they could package together with their other one to slide back up.

If they are going to draft an edge that needs more refinement,  then you draft that guy in the 2nd rd and put him ij a platoon. At pick 8, that player needs to be starting this year.  My list of players who have automatic  upgrade n starting value at possibly 8 are The safety from the Gamecocks, Carter(if traded up to 4) Warren, Johnson and Jihaad. Even Jihad and Johnson would have to get past a few obstacles. I hope this team doesn't stick at 8 and take Williams  but like someone said above, we don't take bpa as much in rd 1 no more.  I'd take Walker at 8 but that's bc I can see explosion in his play. He'd either be an upgrade Inside or actually  learn to be a dawg at edge. I know its not popular with some but I'm high on Warren the most.

    • This is gonna be longest six weeks ever
    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
