Smith... Gettis... LaFell

Honestly, if we would have lost this game, I would have blamed it mostly on Smith for that fiasco. NO EXCUSE.

Having said that, please don't start hating on the guy. Let's just put a stop to that talk before it even begins. One of the MAIN reasons why those other receivers were open is SMITH. His presence alone on that field can make a difference. Much like Peppers. A lot of times Peppers' stats didn't actually tell the story.

He just needs to get over himself already. He's going to get slower, he's going to get older and the way I see it Smith has two choices: He can either assure himself a spot on this team for a long time to come by learning how to still be effective over the next years(becoming the next Ricky Proehl) and sharing the spotlight with new WR's or can continue to let his ego get in the way to the point where that may get him benched years before his abilities will.

But now he is getting better & better, especially that last catch that was able to get us closer to the field goal. Please refer him as LaFail if he start looking like Jarrett in his first 3 season here, mmmkay? It pointless to call someone as failure already for a rookie. Some people should stop calling player a bust until the first 2 or 3 season than just 1.

Uh, he had one good game today. Lets not get carried away here, the kid still drops far too many passes....

I'm with you. Smitty pissed me off today, because he pulled his crap right when the Panthers had all the momentum.

I like how even after a win some of you douche bags are still complaining about Lafell dropping a ball 3 weeks ago

ya Smith was doubled but havent we in Panther nation been praying for receivers to make defenses regret doing that... IT HAPPENED TODAY... they doubled Smith and the other guys stepped up

and some of you guys are complaining "well the only reason Gettis & LaFell looked good is b/c Smith was double covered" thats the point guys, to get the team to a point where doubling Smith hurts you

Exactly.

There were plenty of things our team can improve upon, and yes, we did play the 49ers, but I'm going to enjoy this win. It's hard to complain about a game in which Moore, Smith, LaFell and Gettis tore it up. I hope we see much more of that this year.

For the first time since... ricky proehl/moose/smith?... we looked like we had 3 legitimate WR threats. that is impressive.

hell, the fact we were in 3 wr sets at all was impressive.

good job to all of 'em. each made their own mistakes, this game and in the past... but if they can play like that consistently fug this will be the best offensive draft in forever.

Not trying to take anything away from the wideouts that were on the field today---anything---but, let's not forget about Devin Thomas. He arguably has the talent and ability to be a consistent impact player in this league from many accounts, and quite possibly could be the WR with the most upside in a Panthers uniform. I will be excited to see what he'll add to the mix.

Steve Smith will never get benched.

But he will get traded. Lafell, Gettis, Thomas, Edwards, Wright, Martin were never bad, just green/raw. They are starting to get the hang of it.

Gettis was running some of the best routes I have ever seen. We have a star in him. LaFell? Well, he is on pace to the same season Moose had as a rookie. The same comments are being made about Lafell that were made about Moose. It takes time. Now that the season is almost half over, they are improving as they should.

Edwards will develop and next season, he will slowly become a solid slot WR. Forget the Wildcat and PR--we need him to concentrate on 1 job.

I think and hope that these guys will continue to improve, but let's not let one game against a one-win team cloud us into thinking that Steve Smith is expendable.

I want to see several more games like this from Moore and the receivers before I deem any of them the future at their respective positions.

Thomas will almost definitely get a jersey next week. I doubt Clowney sees the field again this year, same with Edwards. Although I hope they give AE a shot at somepoint.

I agree with every thing except the AE. He is like an raw piece of clay. I want him to have a year to develop and be groomed, before he hits the NFL field where run route over the middle could turn him into a pansy for the rest of his career. In other words, no point in ruining a potential great playmaker, when we aren't competing for anything this year.
