Is Deangelo Williams a restricted or Unrestricted FA this year? I really don't want to see the guy leave and with whats been going on the past year I can't see him staying here. I also am starting to wonder about his durability because that's two years back to back he went to IR. I wonder if his trade value has dropped because of his injuries.

Also I love how people think Goodson can replace Williams or Stewart after running for 2 100 yard games. Sure its a great accomplishment and I am very happy for the guy but he is not as good as Williams or Stewart.

DeAngelo signed a five-year, $14.5 million contract back in 2006. The deal included $5 million guaranteed with another $3 million available through incentives. The remainder of the deal plays out as follows:

2009 - $645,000

2010 - $725,000

2011 - Free Agent

This is a highly combustible contract situation, but one that is absolutely reason to be even more bullish on DeAngelo's prospects for the upcoming seasons. We don't see him even mentioning anything about his contract situation until the 2009-2010 offseason. He will put his head down and prepare like no other for this year, and with the carries he's given, he will make the most out of it.

New CBA = UFA

This. Same rules as the 2010 uncapped year.

But there is a catch. Restricted Tenders have to be handed out by the end of Feb. and signed by June. However if no CBA is worked out by then, agents will probably instruct their clients not to sign their tenders in a wait and see mode. Then if a new CBA is reached, say in the late summer or fall, it could be retroactive backwards making some of those tenders mute, letting those players become unrestricted.

Thus we could have two free agency periods next offseason: early March and the days after the new CBA is signed.

I don't think Deangelo wants out as bad as many think. I have a friend who is members of the double trouble and have actually met the duo of running backs last Halloween. He told me Deangelo and Stewart were willing to take a pay cut to be able to play together and seemed pretty close friends. Now they could just be saying that for publicity but I just cant see him leaving like peppers did. We already cut the vets this year and the CBA will be in place so there shouldn't be a scare for any big contracts past 2011.

while i don't think either back is money motivated...this seems a little far fetched.

thats why I said they might be saying it for publicity. Dlo and J stew have there own web site where I believe you have to pay and they invite people to come to parties they have. I seen some pics of the parties from my friend. They seem very friendly people and it might not be as far fetched as it seems. Having two great running backs on a team is rare and has put up success in past teams with 2 great rbs. It takes the load off of the #1 rb and can help him play longer while still putting up 1,000 yards a season. Not to mention it will get them publicity where they can make money from endorsements.

Also if Dlo has a bad game it can be over looked because we know JStew has a pretty good chance of coming in and having a good game. The odds that both have a bad game are rare but has happend and when it does it doesn't just make them look bad it makes people think something is wrong with our O-line because two all star running backs have a bad game.

      Yep. I was hoping for and calling for a day three guy. But I didn’t research the position to say if we should or should‘t have jumped at a particular guy at a particular spot.    And everything I read said it was a poor draft for RBs depth wise. I guess when Seattle takes a backup RB in the 1st, that kind of backs that up.    I definitely think we should keep 4 running backs and if King can play well enough then keep him too.    I believe I heard Canales say we are a running team (talking about drafting a WR he will be needing to block as well as catch). Well if we are gonna be a running team by identity we don’t need to stock the WR room to overflowing. If one room has to sacrifice, it should not be the RB room given our circumstances.

      If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.

      I just saw the funniest thing...or very disappointing, depending how you handle misery. A guy on YouTube did a 2027 'way too early' mock draft.  If I told you the simulator has the Panthers selecting in the top 10 , what would you say?  If I told you it was pick #8 and only two QBs were taken in the top 7, what would you say?  If I told you this dude had us taking a defensive player, what would you say?
