If we pick 1st, Luck doesn't declare, who do you want?

Luck should go #1 overall. We take him or we trade down and get a massive package of picks along the way.

I'm still undecided on which one I'd prefer, though it looks like a win-win.

Seriously doubt he stays in school if he's pretty much guaranteed to be a top 5 pick and likely #1 overall.

I cannot for the life of me think of a reason to pass on such a good chance to get a true franchise QB.

If you have a franchise QB, you are going to the playoffs more often than not. From a pure business perspective, it's tough for any FO to try anything else.

I'll point out again that the only reason any team's traded out of what was considered a #1 QB slot in the last decade was when they didn't feel they (well, San Diego) felt they could sign him.

yeah...i can see us trading out and having success with that, but i really do believe that the best thing is to just go ahead and draft luck. trade clausen and a 6th round pick or something for a 2nd rounder.

thi team is young enough and adding more draft picks would only keep it young. i would actually rather us trade all our non-comp picks after the 3rd round for vet players.

opportunities like this are so rare...you have to take advantage of them.

I would want Patrick Peterson. But when was the last time a CB went first in the draft?

Patrick Peterson' date=' no doubt about it. David Gettis has shown me enough that I don't believe WR is a first round need. I would go with Peterson and if he didn't declare then I would try trading down before wanting to kill myself for having the worst luck in the world.....[/quote']

Wow.... Maybe it's just me, but I can not see how we can justify our first pick being a defensive player when we have the worst offense in the NFL. If our offense was atleast half way decent maybe I could understand, but we are the worst. You have to score points and move the ball in this league to win. Even if the offense doesn't score a TD they can help keep the defense off the field.

If no Luck, then AJ Green....That's just me.

Would you give up two 1's and a 2 to get Peyton Manning?

Yes that's a rhetorical question.

Why AJ Green? So we could have more young WRs? Sorry but Gettis, LaFell and Smith work for me.

He has the potential to be a great receiver. He is suppose to be one of the best "can't miss" WR prospects to come out since Calvin Johnson, and with the way our offense has been this year (regardless of the young talent we have on the roster) he would definitely help.

Also, along the same lines of Luck v. Clausen, Gettis/LaFell are John Fox players, so it's possible a new coach might not be as high on their potential as we are.

I'd take Peterson if Luck doesn't declare and all the other top underclassmen do. I believe that Marshall is one of the biggest weak links on the team, and is almost certain to be gone after this year (both his choice and ours). So I see CB as an immediate need, unlike WR. I just don't feel as bad about our WR position as some do. I actually think we have the makings of a very good unit by next year...if we can just get a QB that can get the ball to them.

Although our biggest need is DT, I just don't think any of the top DT's are worthy of being taken in the top 5. I'd much rather take a shot at a potential superstar such as Peterson or Green than guys I think will just be good in Dareus or Fairley. And as I've stated, between Peterson and Green, I'd go for the bigger need, which, IMO, is CB...and personally, I don't give a rats ass about whether or not conventional wisdom says you don't take a CB #1, I want the best player we can get that fills and immediate need.

I'd have to see what people think about Ryan Mallett. There is a lot that I have read where people have said if Luck doesn't come out then Mallett is worthy of the #1 pick. He would have been a first round pick last year if he had come out...ahead of Clausen.

Luck freaking needs to come out though. Jerry Richardson needs to walk into his apartment and tell him he'll make him the richest rookie in NFL history and hire his college coach to come with him if he'll declare.

If Luck doesn't declare for the draft, I would...

1st - CB (Patrick Peterson)

3rd - TE

4th - DT

5th, 6th, 7th - OL (G, T, C)

I'd let Marshall and King walk. I also don't know if AJ Green will declare. I mentioned it before, but the word around town is that momma isn't happy about the mess he was in at the beginning of the season. AJ Green listens to his momma. O_O

This would be ideal. Could you imagine if Green and Luck don't declare, and we're able to pick up Green next year and Luck the year after?

Oh God... imagine the terrible two years we'd have to endure for that. D:

Reason for the DT so late: We're a year late on DT depth. There are still some good ones, but having an elite receiving TE is super important in the passing game. Rosario is alright, but his blocking skills are meh. Barnidge I still don't know what's going on, but if he's not getting play time it's a performance issue. There are some extremely good TEs that scouts are saying won't make it past the 3rd round. Jarvis Jenkins might be available in the 4th also, so that could work :D

Predicting what to do for the draft is just as hard as predicting what the results of the rookie class will be. The variables change every week.

I'd like to see Gettis and LaFell step up and push Smitty into the slot where he wants. I'd have AE glued to 89 the entire season, picking up everything he could about using his quickness to make people miss in the open field. My hopes is that he's returning kicks without issue 11-12, and I'd like for him to take over the slot in 12-13.

I'd also hope for EB about halfway through the season take over for Brayton at the end. If neither of these things come to happen, WR/DE becomes a need in next year's draft.
