If Luck doesn't come out, Fairley is our guy?

Even if Luck is there i prefer a trade down. But if Luck does not declare we go AJ Green.

He is BPA. Also i really think DT is where we add a FA or two.

Brandon Mebane, Alan Branch and Atiyyah Ellison are all FA's better that what we can hope for in the 3rd or later rounds. But then again if we trade down out of the 1st overall and gain a 2nd we could find a top DT talent.

With a lockout looming this could be the year when it would make sense to take a guy like Fairley # 1 overall assuming Luck doesn't come out.

We need a penetrating DT almost as bad as we need a QB.

fairley is nowhere near the talent that suh is and suh was the first DT taken overall in many years. DT is a need, but taking him first overall would be a huge reach. only way i'd feel good about us drafting him in the first round is if we trade down and if luck is in the draft, there is no way we trade down and if luck isn't there then there is no way we can trade down.

One word: Lockout.

The question is: Can a kid declare for the draft and not hire and agent and retain his eligibility if a lockout ensues or if he decides to return to school?

a looming lockout is no reason to not declare.

people keep saying this, but it makes no sense to do this if you are guaranteed a top 3-5 pick.

the draft will happen regardless. he would have a job lined up and the pay to go along with it.

what would happen if he stays? best case scenario he stays where he is. worst case, he gets hurt in a meaningless and payless college game and either loses value or ends his career.

he can't really help his draft value by staying. there isn't much higher you can climb than where he is now.

THE most important thing is securing his future. everything else takes back seat. college can wait. he'll have plenty of time to finish.

if there is no football next year, he can finish school and just work out enough to keep himself in game shape. he only has a year left (remember, he's really a junior). if here is football (which there will more than likely be), then he has his job and he can finish his degree in the offeseasons or wait until he retires.

My problem with selecting A.J. Green is if we pick him, Steve Smith or AE will DEFINITELY be gone soon after. Also, not really a fan of selecting a WR at #1 either...

Fair point, but if Luck is gone AJ Green is the most elite prospect available at a position of need. The only guy who I would put up there with him is Peterson and I just don't know if taking a corner is going to fix what is really broken with this team.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
