Top insider Tony Pauline 2-round mock draft (Panthers love Mykel Williams and will take him)

I still think we take Jalon Walker at #8. Walker is a consensus top #10 pick (top 5 by some). Williams certainly has the tools with his athleticism but his development and learning curve will take more time.

Won’t hate it but I just don’t see us taking Williams that high unless someone leapfrogs us for Walker or Carter somehow falls to us.

Look... I think we all just need to come to terms with the fact we are taking Mykel Williams. There have been multiple insiders that say he is the guy. Same thing happened last year with Legette and the year before with Bryce. This team is anything but unpredictable when it comes to the draft.

Nope, get pumped. I am officially on the Mykel bandwagon. I feel he is going to be a monster in the NFL.  His 2023 tape is great, I do by the talk of injuries hampering his 24 stats. Also, Georgia is a bit of a silly situation with so much talent all across that defense they can get cute and play guys all over the place.  Players are not dialed in at one specific role 100% of the time.

Mykel or Jalon are my 1a and 1b picks on Def.

If Walker is there, they take Walker. If not the take Williams.

There is a lot to like. He is only 20. He is already strong as an ox. He is a silky mover, especially at his size. My only concerns are his ability to become a 10+ sack guy a year. If you are an edge taken in the top 10, that's the hope.

He isn't a hair on fire type of player like Walker. That is what makes Walker jump off the tape. But Williams has very disciplined eyes and rarely takes unnecessary steps/movements. He's more calculated.

This has been my gut since the initial reports back in Jan/Feb about him.

I’ve warmed up to Williams (Stewart less so) through the process. He’s not going to be the most athletic but could become a top 1B type which is still a big add. His limited burst and athleticism caps his upside but he’s still a very solid prospect worth it in this class (relative)

I don't think so anymore. I did at one point, but I think they have liked Williams more all along.

When Kay Adams asked Canales about Walker he lit up and said all UGA players have great things to say about him.  Makes me think they are asking other UGA players about Walker in their visits

I don't doubt that he really likes him, but the question is whether they want him more than Williams.

I think a lot hinges on Walkers workout on the 17th, as ridiculous as it sounds. If his workout is pedestrian, he is dropping out of the top 10. If he lights it up, he could go top 5. Because his size isn't ideal, teams will likely want to see that his athleticism makes up for it.

    • I am not worried about the contracts because any/all can be jettisoned in 2027 with minimal ramifications. I would like to land him because you rarely ever see an elite, 25 year old center hit free agency, this is a very weak center class and Mays is a bottom quarter starting center(love him as a utility IOL).  Ideally this offseason we solve center and draft a high caliber RT/LT to fill the gap for Ikey. Then next offseason, pending outcome of the rookie and Ikey's recovery you can jettison Hunt(VASTLY overpaid), make a determination on Ikey's ability to play(perhaps extend him on the franchise tag as a "prove it"), and let the Ikey/rookien situation dictate Moton. He can be extended on a LOWER cost deal or jettisoned if Ikey and the rookie can take the reigns. Either way, both OT's will need to be resolved, we need an actually starting caliber NFL center again and we need to get rid of one of these OG's. Hunt is the obvious choice as Lewis is substantially better across the board and cheaper.
    • That's not a thing. If they can't find someone, they either aren't actually trying or it's a poisonous job and no one will.  Yes, plenty of them have gone with whom they wanted already. That's not really the point of the rule. It's to force teams to provide opportunities. It has worked well because coaches that wouldn't normally be given interviews are given that experience and teams have also been impressed enough to either offer them in the future or pass positive comments along to other NFL owners/front office personnel.  Also, we are over 20 years into the Rooney Rule. This isn't some new thing teams have to navigate.
    • I mean, as soon as Svech scores on the guy, trot out your best shooters while the goalie is still in his head and go for the kill.  Last night made absolute zero sense.
