If We Don't Go QB in the 1st Round, Who is Your QB?

grab orton if it isn't to high of a risk, 3rd rounder or fourth.......mcnabb if he's not high risk as well.

but no qb is going to do good if we dnt fix our o-line problem, it would be nice to have some o line depth like in 08. Even if we can't get orton or mcnabb, name moore back as starter as long as he isn't used as a sacrificially lamb like last year

T.J. Yates in later rounds, but a veteran has to be brought in either way. Watching the Colts play last weekend, the first thing Manning did after coming off the field was look at pics of the coverages... our QB's go sit on the bench alone, which was also a reflection on how bad the coaching was.

But as far as Clausen is concerned, his arm strength is certainly not NFL caliber and his mechanics are flawed, not to mention his leadership skills are questionable at best. Yates throws well on the run and has great touch on his deep passes, reminds me of a bigger and stronger Jake Delhomme... before his elbow problems.

Without having read all of the comments on here it looks as if they are really going to try and have Clausen be the guy.

Whether this is a good plan or holding any sort of truth is yet to be determined. I doubt from all of the indications thus far that they will be drafting one.

At least they aren't going to throw him to the curb. Of course the front office wants Clausen to succeed and hopes it is all the fault of Fox and his staff. And they hope that Clausen can get better with a good offensive staff.

But as for not drafting a QB, that is still up in the air. Rivera also said he was used to having a franchise quarterback to work with. I figure much of that is yet to worked out once he hires a OC and quarterback coach.

No doubt we need a vet, I have mentioned McNabb, Alex Smith, Troy Smith, or VY... But, what is they just bring MM back as the vet?

1.troy smith? :yikes: are u kidding? trust me, clausen is a billion times better qb than troy ever was...i know what i'm talking about.

2.vince young? what's so special about that guy? he is still a head case...

having Jimmy start again is pointless. Not simply b/c he is garbage but b/c he limits the growth/improvement/play of everyone else on offense.

Carolina has to have some one not named Clauen start week 1.

not jimmy is/was the limit on the offense, your coaches were.

Reading this thread makes me shake my head.

Mcnabb? Sorry, he isn't the guy he use to be.

Volek? Would rather ride with moore.

Any of the san fran guys? Once again, id rather ride with moore.

Orton? Not with any draft pick this year.

The reality of it is, no one in the draft is going to make an impact at qb next season.

Regardless how you feel about moore, he is still a good option, even as a backup.

As for another vet...will have to see what rivera has in mind....cause I'm sure he's not considering most of the names being thrown around in this thread.

    • Congratulations do they know who the father is?
    • In my opinion Fitterer was probably right about not paying McCaffrey. Now not wanting to "pay RBs" in my opinion isn't something you want to set in stone, to me it all comes down to the individual.
    • Maybe I'm just not understanding, but everywhere that I have read says that signing bonuses go against the cap prorated by as much as five years. The following example uses Andrew Luck's rookie contract as an example. "Take Andrew Luck, the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Luck signed a four-year contract with the Colts worth $22.1 million and included a $14.5 million signing bonus. Rather than a $14.5 million cap hit in 2012, the Colts spread out his signing bonus over the life of his contract. The hit against the cap would be $3.625 million per year over four years instead of a direct cap hit of $14.5 million directly in 2012. This gave the Colts more leverage and cap flexibility in signing other players." https://www.the33rdteam.com/nfl-signing-bonuses-explained/ I don't know why some of you think that signing bonuses aren't counted against the cap over the length of the contract, but whatever.   "The bonus with a signing is usually the most garish aspect of a rookie contract. Bonus is the immediate cash players receive when they ink a deal. It factors into the cap, but only for the whole contract duration, in terms of salary cap calculations. In the case of Bryce Young’s $24.6 million signing bonus, that’s prorated to approximately $6.15 million per season over a four-year deal. This format allows teams to handle the cap and provides rookies with some short-term fiscal stability, which is important given the high injury risk in this league." https://collegefootballnetwork.com/how-rookie-contracts-work-in-the-nfl/ I understand how signing bonuses can be a useful tool in order to manage the cap, and as one of the article suggests, signing bonuses may become important if you have a tight cap, but the bill is always going to come due. I'm not necessarily referring to you Tuka, but it seems to me that others simply don't want to understand that fact which is why they're reacting to what I'm saying negatively. How odd. In any event, I have a better general understanding of why signing bonuses are used now, and it's generally to fit salaries under the cap. Surely players, whether they be rookies or not, love a signing bonus because they get a good portion of their money up front. This in turn gives them more security and probably amounts to tax benefits as well. I also understand why teams would not want to use signing bonuses, particularly for players or draftees who have a higher probability of being gone before a contract even ends.
