REPORT: Panthers open to trading down from #8

Recommended Posts

I largely remain a fan of not trading up nor down in drafts.....and just using your picks to draft the best player.

Almost every time they go up or down I feel they lose more times than not.

100%.

Trying to get cute is the last thing we should want this FO doing right now because they are trash at it.

Personally I feel you need to be fluid each draft year in regards to that years main tiers and overall pool.

Find the best scouts and Trust your big board. This will guide you to being a yearly winner. Many say it, but no one truly does BPA. Example if I was running the Panthers this year, starting with that 3rd, if there was a OG I feel was HOFer and he's still there in 3rd....I would draft him. There's injuries and sooo much turn over, lewis or hunt could be on a different team in 26. Just take the clear best player, if you need a DT and he's 80 and the OG is 83...its ok to "break" the golden rule and fill a big hole.

Laugh if you want, but I was a FF king when I followed the league. One of the methods I learnt was as each round passes, add/focus/target more up-side.

Again most drafts have different talent levels, but after the early 4th(115th) take more risk and go for broke. It's something like 5-7% success rate after that 115, take a risk on trouble or injuried player.... you just gave your odds of having a successful season a boost....thus you keep winning and keep making $$$.... If that player doesn't work out, well so did 94% of the other teams players.

Mcshay and other analysts are speculating the Saints could just pick BPA, roll with rattler, clear some cap space next off season and go for a qb in the next draft where there are some very talented dudes that potentially could come out.  In short, Arch in new orleans with a rebuilt roster and with cap space would be a problem.  I guess we will see what happens in a week

I am not sold on Sanders, but many think he'll be a starter.  The question is? Do you pass on Sanders and tank 25 for the chance at Manning, IF he comes out in 2026?  That IMO is a really long shot. If Sanders makes it to #9 I think they take Sanders.

Hopefully, he makes it to #8 and we have the opportunity to get more picks and make N.O. run with Rattler and still miss out on Manning.

I'll never understand this. There's no one amazing we'd want at 8, so we trade down. But that means there's no one "amazing" for someone to trade into our spot for. This is a weak Draft. We'll be picking at 8.

Unless you want Tyler Warren, Abdul Carter, Jeanty, Omarion Hampton (he is going to beast, don’t @ me), the corner from Michigan, and that’s about it.

Those are the “elite” prospects I’d say. And I list Hampton there as someone who dislikes UNC, to the core of the institution itself, its fans, the Walmart shelves, etc. Hampton is a dude and should be starting somewhere in 2025.

    • I've just seen enough highly touted prospects who pretty much everyone was high on end up busting to assume anything.
    • Maybe, but a player can also bust for a lot of reasons.  And I'm not about to go look up the stats of all the 1st round WR busts, but I'd be surprised if they had the sustained output and success in college that T-Mac had.  Those early WR busts are usually guys who had one breakout season and then were highly drafted because of physical potential, not already built out ability. I'm not even saying T-Mac is 100% going to have a better career than Chark (although I obviously think he will). I'm just saying that right now, his skill level and ability is better than Chark's ever was, and I don't understand how anyone is arguing against that, not because of T-Mac, but because of who Chark himself was.   If you want to take the argument that you can't say ANY player who hasn't played a down yet can't be considered better than someone who has, then so be it (even though I'd say that's a dumb stance anyways). At his peak ability, Chark was more like a #3 WR than anything else, he was the definition of a league average WR.  If you don't think a Top 10 selected WR with his tape is better than that just because they haven't played in the NFL yet, then you're just stuck on the "he hasn't played a down yet" idea and can't evaluate them as players and abilities.
    • And you would've probably said the same thing about a lot of highly drafted WRs who busted.
