Matt Moore: I would love to stay in Carolina

i just can't get out of my head the emphasis rivera had in his press conference when he said "on our roster". i'm very possibly reading too much into it but i took that as a sign that moore has a higher hill to climb to rejoin the panthers than many are presuming.

Bottom line its cost effective to save him and sign him to a 1-2 year deal and let him compete, if hes not what we want then so be it. He played well enough to win games against playoff teams behind a better line/better rushing game then we fielded last year. The Giants game was the worst game to have throwing 3 pics in the endzone... shattering his confidence. Build him up with a new QB coach and OC, and find out what we have in him. I still think he is starting material, and I still like what we have in him. Hes worth the money to bring back. I wouldnt mind someone else like Kellen Clemmens from the Jets.

In case there was any conceivable doubt that beat writers get a lot of their info from the Huddle..

Speaking of guys whose contracts are up and want to stay with their current team, Matt Moore writes that he’d like to stay in Carolina. I wouldn’t totally rule out Moore getting an offer to stay with the Panthers, but I think the team may look for someone else to provide an alternative to Jimmy Clausen.

Unless we're supposed to buy that Patty just happened to stumble upon mattmoore3.com...

Yes, bad play-calling.

Yes, at times the OL was bad.

But was poor QB play not our biggest problem last year?

Davidson's play calling isn't what made Moore turn the ball over 3 times in the red zone in a very winnable game against NY Week 1.

Speaking of..

At least Moore got us into the red zone. Clausen didn't do that all season.

This is what I think some of you are missing. Jerry put alot of faith for the season in Matt. Matt let him down. Jerry felt like all of us, that Matt would build off his last years performance. He didn't. In the PC he was talking about QB play more then anything. Then in Rivera PC he talk about trying 2 find out if Jimmy can play no mention of Moore. I think Jerry put some hopes in Matt carrying this team too a OK record and earn a Contract but he didn't.

All you haters talk about how he poo his pants and looked horrible and had decided that after 7 quarters. That was all bullshit. If Clausen wasn't so hyped, they would have put real faith in Matt Moore and let him work his way through our offensive ineptitude. Instead they bench him after 7 quarters. That was the seasons turning point. Matt was running the offense as well as he could at the time. They would have improved with some continuity. But the JC circus was too much to handle for somebody in the front office and the change was made. What a mistake that turned out to be. The only way Matt leaves Carolina is if they draft a QB with first pick. I don't see that happening. So he will be in camp trying to earn his starting job back. Oh, did I mention that there is a connection between Matt and the Charger coaching staff that not too many people know about.

I love how everyone is saying Moore can't handle the pressure and only won games in 07 and 09 because they were meaningless and had no pressure. Using that logic, Clausen sucks because he couldn't even win games late when there was no pressure. Moore sucked this season no doubt. But judging him based on two games this season, then dismissing the entire season for Clausen just because he is a rookie is absurd.

I still like Matt Moore if not for anything else, his physical traits and ability to throw the ball deep. I think having more pass plays with a TE rumbling about for him to target will only make his play even better.

The QB situation is tough because the team was hoping to have gotten their franchise QB in Clausen with the possibility of Moore or Pike being able to do it. There wasn't a lot of competition unfortunately, and as we saw, the system as a whole completely failed.

At the very least, the team knows that between the QBs that started this season on the roster they have at best game managers (unless this coaching staff also comes with magic QBdust). Andrew Luck would've been that franchise guy, but he's elected to stay in college and the possibility of being the #1 overall pick again next season is NOT an option (unless we trade up for it, of course) for the franchise.

I want to see what these three can do with a QB-friendly system and a quality coaching staff (and from how things have been going, this is looking more and more like a reality). Pike I see absolutely zero potential from personally. With all the fury at Clausen, Pike looked just terrible. At the same time, he apparently wasn't coached well either (duh). I just don't see Pike ever amounting to anything in the NFL other than a back-up, and we already have enough of those with Moore & Clausen. I can trick myself into believing those two can potentially successfully start in the NFL though, but even my eternal optimism can't be there for Tony Pike.

If it were my call, I'd cut Pike, sign Moore to a 2-year budget deal with an open for a 3rd. Worst case scenario he's a back-up which we know he can do at least. I'd then go out and get another QB in FA and let all of them compete for the job.

I think it's a good possibility we'll see Billy Volek here, unless Rivera & Chud think he wouldn't help at all.

I still don't get how Moore was a 4 yr vet this year. 07 + 08 +09 = 3. 3 yrs as a young backup doesn't make you a vet QB.

that make no sense, that would be like saying Jimmy shouldn't have sucked b/c he had a yr in the NFL under his belt. He didn't.

It makes you a young QB that is gonna still take some lumps.

There's a reason why Jimmy fell so far in the draft, just like there's a reason Matt went undrafted...they both have flaws. The new staff will evaluate whoever is on the roster. Personally, right now I don't have a care in the world who stays and who goes as long as we get some kind of solid QB play.

If the staff feels like Matt can't get it done, cut his ass. If Jimmy can't get it done, ship his ass out too. Point blank, we need a leader on offense, and we havent had one since Jake. If it takes drafting a Qb or spending Uncle Jerry's cash to get one, this team needs a decent QB. I dont think we have one on the roster that can lead us to a Super Bowl, but I trust our incoming staff to make the right decision.

    • Extrapolate that with every QB for that matter. I guarantee you there's quite a bit of missed opportunities and yards left on the field for everyone. Many NFL QBs deal with WRs not putting in A+ effort, subpar o-line play and other deficiencies. The great ones are able to rise above these issues and create opportunities for plays. Guys like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes can both play in and out of structure, as well as find ways to get yards when things break down and mask mistakes by throwing guys open, creating opportunities from nothing, etc. Bryce Young has only shown he's able to make things happen when the rest of the team picks up his slack. Very rarely does he create those opportunities himself. When this is a consistent pattern year after year with Bryce where he shows up lackluster, it's a concern. This is year three and he should be elevating the team as a first overall pick this franchise traded up for.  He was far from elevating anyone against JAX. In fact, he needed others to elevate and create for him. Excuses may be fine for a rookie, but this is year three for the first overall pick. Not looking good so far.
    • I think the worst issue is coaching. Countless bad snaps, XL not getting his feet in or trying on runs plays, our centre being down field when he didn't need to be. All seem to be from poor coaching for me. I believe Canales is to soft to rip the players a new one when the fug up. Plus I honestly believe that Canales is slow getting his plays in giving Bryce less time to diagnose and adjust to the defence. Don't worry I could of head butted Bryce for that fumble and the 4th down throw aways but the other plays are explainable to me
    • No We have been making excuses for him for 3 years, and we have gave him a hundred chances  Bryce is a bust, and we need to cut him now and stop wasting everyone's time
