He was released by the Lions this week. IDK if anyone knows much about this guy but he was an up and coming star for the Browns and and 6 picks the year before last when he was traded to the Lions for Rogers. He even knocked the ball out of Steve Smiths hands last year and I was impressed with his play that game. He would be an excellent pick to replace Lucas. Just look for his name to come up when FA starts. :wink5:

He was terrible this past year... Couldn't stop anyone.

He is getting cut by the DETROIT LIONS and you're interested in him?

it wasn't his fault...not entirely. detroit mismanaged him from the beginning.

i have been paying attention to him for a few years. i had heard some things from lions fans i know about this....reasons for his not starting ahead of far inferior competition. this quote pretty much sums it all up.

There are going to be a lot of reasons given as to why the Detroit Lions informed cornerback Leigh Bodden that he won't be back with the team next year, as reported by The Detroit News today.

There will be the roster bonus (which was huge), his performance (which was mediocre) and his postseason comments (which were the final nail in the coffin).

All of these are legitimate reasons why Bodden won't return, but the real blame for this failure belongs squarely on the shoulders of the Lions.

Bodden was acquired in the trade that sent Shaun Rogers to the Cleveland Browns and it appeared to be a great deal at the time. In addition to a draft pick, the Lions were beefing up their thin secondary with an up-and-coming player such as Bodden.

Former coach Rod Marinelli and defensive coordinator Joe Barry, though, completely mishandled the situation.

Bodden is a brash and confident young player who thrives on success, but the Lions messed with his head from the very beginning.

Marinelli's custom of having new players "earn'' starting positions was ridiculous -- and that's been pointed out many times in this blog. It was especially foolish in the case of Bodden, who was a three-year starter with the Browns and had six interceptions the previous season.

Still, Bodden was delegated as a No. 2 cornerback behind Travis Fisher for the entire training camp and preseason. It was embarrassing to Bodden.

The Lions plunged the dagger in even deeper when they made Fisher the starter for the season opener in Atlanta. Bodden quickly entered the game when Fisher gave up some big plays, but the damage was done.

During the season, the Lions -- after making an even bigger mistake by signing Brian Kelly -- switched Bodden over to Kelly's spot on the left side of the defense. It's a move that Bodden resisted, but the Lions didn't want to hear about it.

I remember he looked good before. I also remember that even back in Cleveland, attitude was an issue. He has a police incident on record though it's relatively minor.

Also a bit concerned with a corner that always wants to play a particular side of the field. That was one of the failures of our scheme this year.

Still, he did indeed look like a good, up and coming corner before, and he handled Ocho Cinco fairly well.

Could be worth at least a look, depending on what kind of money he wants.

didnt the lions run zone..were he was not good at..and thats what we run a lot of

that's a good point. they ran a cover2 and he wasn't very good in it....but i just wonder how much of his problems had to do with just being surrounded by lack of talent and a poorly run defense.

The funny thing about is he wanted to play the 2nd CB spot and didnt want to be the shut down CB so to speak. I doubt he will be garnering much attention because of his play and what team he came from but he still has good talent and is still in his prime.

cutting or replacing lucas is a bad idea, I don't see it happening

restructure his contract but don't cut him, marshall can't take his place and we need to focus more attention on the D-line rather than the secondary

unless a top CB falls to us in the draft i don't see it happening

I totally disagree. Lucas will be 31 when he hits camp this year and he was losing speed last year. Yea he might have a better year but its all down at this point. Bodden would be a younger better replacement.

      Let's be completely honest about this... Our WR room is AT and a bunch of question marks. Thielen is the only guy we know who knows the route tree completely, understands play calls and can regularly get open/beat close coverage when necessary. He's long in the tooth, isn't the speediest guy on the field but he plays like a pro, starting level wide receiver. Xavier, last season looked great at first, but man he kind of petered out down the stretch and would disappear in a number of games. He wasn't reliable on routes or getting open and where he was supposed to be a king at contested catches, he often looked a bit intimidated. I'm not saying he's a washout by any means. Anyone with his size, speed and catch radius could make it big in the NFL, but can he do it? He'll need to show more than he did in the preseason before we can really rely on him as a WR1 or WR2.  Coker was a revelation last season, he really played way above his (non)draft status and flashed multiple times in games and was a steady performer. What we need to find out, though, is whether he was benefiting from being an unknown that wasn't getting maximum effort from opposing DBs or if he was just outworking and outhustling everyone on the field. We should find out this season. We sure as hell didn't find out much in the pre-season (from him or any receiver or QB for that matter). He's still a question mark, but I think he has the look of the real deal. He might be this generation's next Thielen. Now, let's talk about Tet. High first round draft pick, first true WR off the board this year. Stellar career out west in college. Has the swagger of the WR1. And man, y'all are going to get mad about this but... he comes across as a mook. And in the pre-season he performed, well, not so great against poor opposition of second and third stringers. Yeah, he caught that one moonshot ball in the first game but really, nothing else lighting the place up. Rookie endzone drop in that game, too. He's still young and adjusting, I'm sure, but I was hoping to see something of a breakthrough kind of guy. I'm still looking. Hunter Renfro? Gosh, I hope he can make the team and make a comeback to his old form. It would be such a great story. But maybe neither one of those happens. We won't know until Tuesday and then, if he makes it past there it could be weeks. So, TL;DR: AT is all we can bank on right now. We couldn't afford to let him go considering the number of unknowns we'd be throwing out there for our QB, who himself is still an unknown. One thing to add: Our receivers coaching group has their work cut out for them. I hope they are up to the task, but the pre-season gave me little reason to believe in them. And I really need something to believe in here in Carolina.

      Same I think Randsom is a baller..... hopefully we don't have to suffer through 4-8 games of Scott blowing azz to get him on the feild.

      Linebacker is the biggest need - I hope we figure out a way to address it. Krys Barnes is the only one who even moderately flashed.  Super nervous about Trevin/Rozeboom as a duo (Still like Trevin) I'd be excited if we had a better vet to mentor Trevin.  Or a better younger guy to support Rozeboom.  They just don't fit well and it may be a big problem against the run, even with our DL much improved.
