is Rivera's TE already on the roster??

lets look at the tight ends that we already have, and if they are what Rivera is looking for:

Jeff King- (actually a FA) but he would be willing to come back, no doubt. However, he is mainly the good-ole-Fox type of TE= great blocking the run and pass and can catch a pass if its on his numbers. Not very athletic, cant really go up and get the ball even though his size is good. Doubt we resign him even though he seems like a "Panther-player"that JR & Hurney love..

Dante Rosario- (FA too) good blocker, good hands and has the playmaking ability that i think Rivera wants. He has a little nasty streak to him aswell. Always thought of him as a guy that should be starting but in Fox's system, wouldnt never get the chance because of Jeff King's better ability to block. This is the one guy that I think might be Rivera's guy- if he doesnt go out and try to mold him his own from scratch.

Gary Barnidge- more of a pass catching TE that doesnt 'Wow' you in the passing game. Yes, he is the best catcher out of the bunch, but not the all around guy that Rivera says he is looking for

opinions?

I've always consider Barnidge to be more of a big receiver than a tight end. Come to think of it, if he lost some pounds and worked on gaining more speed, he might have a shot at being the number two receiver playing opposite Steve Smith.

Yet I doubt any of these guys will be the TE Rivera is looking for.

Depth is critical, and providing we play, Rosario Dawson and Barney should make the roster and gain an opportunity to grow seeing as how they're lightyears better than any late-round project TE. This'll be an exciting battle to watch in camp and preseason because face it, the only time we've seen a TE being utilized during fox's tenure was when our D had the opponent in 3rd and long and what Fox thought was an extra OT ran up the seam and caught a pass for a 1st down. Our inability to use our own TE's and figure out how to stop opposing ones has been nauseating since 2002. Just another reason I'm glad to see Fox donning orange and blue this season.

I think Rosario is the most complete of the bunch. Even in SD Gates wasn't the best blocking TE they had (not even going to bother trying to spell his name, Brandon M) so I think Rosario has a real shot depending on what we decide to do in FA.

I personally don't think there will be a lot in terms of FA due to the CBA. I don't think there will be many big name guys switch teams but who knows.

Dante Rosario is a free agent just like King this year. Barnidge is the only one with any time left on his contract, and he only has 1 year left.

I don't know how much movement there will be in FA this year with the CBA and if it's late I'm guessing there will be a lot of holdovers so they can get as much time in as possible once it's signed.

Who knows though

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
