Something to think about (QB option)

I love me some Carson

Him/Moore/Armanti would be my ideal stable next year, no matter how unlikely it is

not getting into the debate, but moore has no advatage over clausen. in fact clausen has the advantage solely based on his being under contract. moore is an afterthought going forward and probably has no more chance on being a panther in the future as other FA options have.

Just because there is no reason to waste a spot on Clausen or Pike. That spot may be filled with a QB we get in the 4th or 5th but that's it.

It could just be Moore/Palmer and have Armanti be a WR which is also okay with me.

LOL, yes let's just go ahead and give up on Clausen now - but by all means we should give Moore another chance.

TRD hates Clausen and dislikes Pike, so he'd probably start Kasay at emergency 3rd over the two of them.

anyway back on target...

Alex Smith is being courted by SF because if the CBA stuff isn't finished soon there will be a reduced FA period and all hell will break loose in the draft. He is a good option for them considering they may have very few others. It doesn't mean he's going to stay there 100%, but the fact Harbaugh has said what he has means that they're not going to jettison him no matter what, despite what it seemed only a few weeks ago.

Frankly Alex Smith could excel with Harbaugh, especially if there is stability there the next few years.

just because i'm lazy, here's guys i have been thinking about that i posted in other threads...

for competition: gradkowski, tarvaris jackson, grossman, thigpen, moore, alex smith, maybe derek anderson

carrying the clipboard: pennington, bulger, josh mccown, seneca wallace (though being a WCO guy, i'm not sure what he'd really have to offer)

For as much as people read and respond to my posts, they don't understand what I say half the time. For you of all people to understand and take them for what they are, is shocking to me.

For the record, I do not want Palmer here, I don't think Clausen will be gone, and I know Armanti will not be the emergency QB.

Personally, I think Carson Palmer is washed up... but he still may be better than anything we have in the short term. He needed the same Tommy John surgery Jake had but elected not to have the surgery, and it appears the result is wet noodle for an arm.

One thing I know for sure is he would have to be open to re-negotiating his contract... he's getting paid elite QB money right now.

Alex Smith isn't a much more attractive option but again he may be better than anything we have short term and unlike Palmer he's at least physically capable of making all the throws with a decent amount of velocity.

Personally, I like the guy in my sig - but I know it won't happen.

I was watching Carson pretty close this season, just to see if he had anything left.

My conclusion: Not right now.

His deep balls almost seems to have to be wound up...kinda like Byron Leftwich used to do. The intermediate throws were OK, but he couldn't put any mustard on it if he has to get a quick release.

IMO his elbow will not allow him to put any torque on it. I have no idea if this type of thing can get better with time, but I certainly don't believe so.

I like Carson for his smarts and experience, but I don't think that he has the ability to throw it down the field like this team seems to be leaning toward.

Most don't understand because it is soooooo tiresome to sift through all of the ridiculous poo that you post to find the one or two logical and coherent thoughts.

Rather, people just assume ALL of your ramblings are such and pretty much assume to ignore you.:D

Actually it's the opposite. Most of my posts are very well thought out and have real information to back them up and occasionally I'll throw one out there like that.

Decent.

He went to the Jets, where my primary memory of him is watching him get knocked cold by Bruce Smith after an idiot rookie tackle thought it'd be cool to trash talk him.

(Smith stood over Esaiason in shock and regret after it happened)

The Bills being my other team I remember that hit like it was yesterday. SPLAT! Nite nite boomer :D

What was most impressive about Bruce? He did it as a 3-4 DE, Bad things man...

    • This is always a non-story by the time camp begins.
    • I've really only begun to pay attention this week being that training camp is looming, so I was personally caught off guard by the fact that Nic Scourton remains unsigned. That's not necessarily bad news, but it's not necessarily good news either. Apparently it's a thing with this year's draft class. "Of the 32 players selected in the second-round, 30 remained unsigned and the clock is ticking. "Already we've seen one second-round pick hold out from the start of training camp with that player being Los Angeles Chargers' wide receiver Tre Harris. Harris did not report with the rest of the Chargers' rookies on Saturday due to his contract situation, a issue that could impact nearly every other team in the league. "For the Panthers, defensive end Nic Scourton is the player to watch for when rookies start showing back up to the team facilities next week. "The 51st overall pick is one of the 30 second-rounders who has yet to sign their rookie contract and the reason why is due to the other two that have actually signed. "Cleveland Browns' linebacker Carson Schwesinger and Houston Texans' wide receiver Jayden Higgins each signed fully guaranteed contracts as the first and second players drafted in the second-round. Prior to this year, second-round picks never received a fully guaranteed deal, only players selected in the first-round." https://atozsports.com/nfl/carolina-panthers-news/panthers-nic-scourton-contract-second-round-pick-training-camp-hold-out-tre-harris/ So, I suppose we'll see what's what pretty soon. It's definitely something to monitor.
    • overwhelming majority of kids in travel ball aren't getting scholarships though because most teams are rec caliber (and not watched by scouts)    and parents/leagues sort of helped create this system and narrative IMO where travel ball is now oversaturated and most of it is simply expensive rec ball.  is travel beneficial for some athletes to get more exposure? Sure. The ones travel actually existed for.   I still think travel has expanded entirely too broad at this stage......where they will now have 5 teams per year in your backyard area pending they can get parents to write those checks.   Ain't no scout ever laying eyes on 90%+ of the kids in travel ball at this stage of where it has morphed into.
