General Draft Rumors/Speculation Thread

Your point?

We didn’t have Brown at all last year, so we are basically already adding one all pro level DT to the team this year.  I’m not even saying we don’t need another, but just that I can’t see how it’s a priority position for us high in the draft because of Brown.

if it still doesn't make sense to you that they want to fix the run defense, I don't know what else to tell you. They have only been preaching that specifically since the end of the season.  It didn't make sense when we drafted JStew at the time either

If you don’t understand there is a difference between “wanting to fix the run defense” and “DT is the position of priority” for us, then I don’t know what else to tell you.

When you have a Derrick Brown and so many other holes, I can never see DT being the position of priority in the draft, and that’s not saying we can’t take one, but it should be far from our main priority

so I assume you prioritize need over BPA. Not here to argue with you btw, just pointed out earlier why the Panthers would consider DT@8 since it "doesn't make sense" to you. It's pretty obvious to me. No-one here knows how Brown will rebound btw.

Players aside, how is DT our main target with our 1st rounder when our current best player on the team is also a DT, it just doesn't make sense.

Sure, if Graham falls to 8, I think he's good enough to where you have to strongly consider him there, but I don't get how DT is our main target in the 1st round of this draft with all our other needs.

I didn't say in the 1st round. They want a DT as they have looked at about 20 of them. If Graham is there he's the pick.

In the 3-4 defense, Derrick Brown has not been a nose tackle, that is needed.  We signed Bobby Brown to play nose tackle but he should not keep us from drafting one.

I saw a few people on a Jags forum saying that there are rumors they will trade #5 to Dallas so they can come get Jeanty.  At least makes a Mason Graham drop a little more likely

If the Jags don't want Jeanty, Dallas needs to trade with us for cheaper and still get him. I think the Raiders have too many holes to take a RB that early.

Thank you for stating the difference, because it’s a big one. Personally I’d prefer another Bobby Brown/haloti ngata/Kenneth Grant big boy 34 NT. This D has to have that to have a chance. But in a 34 front if we draft Mason we’d be putting DB and Mason 34 DE and BB in the middle. Hard not to like that too

We spent more for Tershawn Wharton (54M over 3 yrs) than any other free agent and he will line up opposite Brown as a DE in a 3-4. He is known more for his pass rush than run stopping. We signed NT Bobby Brown as a run stopper (21M over 3 yrs) and have Shy Tuttle behind him).  We signed Pat Jones as an Edge for 20M for 2 yrs (7 sacks with only one start in '24).  We are really thin at safety but that is generally not a value position. So who knows how the staff prioritize the D.

Yeah I’m interested to see what the FA’s do. I’m just tired of watching teams run the ball right down our throats for years now. I haven’t seen Evero show the ability to change his scheme to talent available. I’ve only ever seen these D’s work with a monster in the middle. Shay Tuttle hasn’t shown he can hold that down so if Brown goes down we’re in trouble if we don’t have that kinda dude. Plus he’s big and big guys need to rotate ha.

We can use help in several areas. As long as we don’t take some RAS metrics wonder pass rusher with no production I’m good. We have a lot of picks. Let’s go 🤘🏻

This just occurred to me and for some reason I feel like I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere before.

But a lot of people saying Shedeur could end up really falling, maybe even to the 2nd round.

If the Browns take Hunter at #2 as expected, it would be crazy of Shedeur falls to the 2nd round and they end up drafting him to pair the two of them back together.

Seems like something a GM would want to do to create buzz and sell tickets/jerseys, but if I'm Stefanski, I'm pounding the table to not allow it as it basically means he's setting himself up to be fired so they can hire Deion after the season.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
