REPORT: per Albert Breer, Panthers have been most aggressive team in attempting to trade back

I think it's easier to miss on pick #23 than on pick #8 pending you play the Marty Hurney logic at the top of a draft and just take the surest thing.

Normally yeah but I’m not sure there is a “surest thing” at pick 8 in this bad draft. They all seem pretty flawed.

That's part of the reason why I'd be having my scouts and decision makers actively avoiding media narratives and talking points. Ignore the group think BS. We're going to put in the work and make our own evaluations as unadulterated by the BS as we can manage and sink or swim on that.

And if these scouts have several positional players with close grades like people are claiming?

that's why I couldn't take Jeanty and Warren off my board at the top.   And if anyone has followed by postings over the years, I am about as anti drafting a RB high as anyone on here.

I just don't like this draft.  But hey, that said, watch it turn out some monsters I'm doubting.  A lot of the draft classes I have loved have been bad.

Is Jeanty better than Hampton? Warren better than Loveland. Warren only showed production one year, Jeanty played weak competition and looked average in the playoffs. I’m just saying they all have flags.

Then absolutely listen to offers. I'm not saying to don't trade down. Honestly, my preference would be to trade down with an at or near traditional market value offer. But am I willing to take late teens value for my #8 pick just to move down? Hell no.

I mean, I know this is UNC country but yeah, I think Jeanty is special.  And I generally would say any team would still be stupid to draft him high being special.  I do like Hampton a lot and feel he was overlooked by the media.  So not knocking him in anyway.    I just don't like this first round.  Jeanty is safe.  I think Warren is safe.  Will they be All Pros? I don't know.  I think both can get out there early and be solid NFL players.

So it's not really about me liking Jeanty or Warren.  It's just disliking this draft more than any I can recall going in for a long time.

It’s definitely a bad draft for top end talent. Which is why trade ups won’t fetch what they normally would.

Everyone outside of Travis Hunter has a "yeah but". Even Carter has some durability concerns. Everyone is going to need some form of development to be productive in the nfl. That is why this draft is a buyers market and so far nobody is buying.

Yep and Carter only played edge for one year and isn’t good vs the run

When team building, coming away with 3+ solid/very solid starters is FAR more advantageous than getting 1 stud and 1 third stringer.

Here’s how that hurts more than it helps.

Team is dog doo and manages to sh*t their way in to a generational stud in the draft. The team is still really really bad, but dude on his own studness wins a couple games the team really didn’t deserve (strip sack defensive TD, win by 2)… because he is a man among boys.

future draft position while he is doing his thing is now royally screwed. You’re supposed to be 1-2 win team but with him … now a 4-5 win team. That sucks.

Dude is on his way to the HOF, our team is stuck in purgatory.

I want to trust the draft savvy of the shot callers, but right now I have a really hard time doing so. Please go conservative, Dave T/Dan.

Trade back for a mid round 1st swap, get their second and next year’s third. Go BPA in first 2 rounds and draft for need in rounds 3+. This draft HAS TO come away with at least 3 quality starters to begin a ‘window’ build.

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
