Also, the whole take a tight end over a true receiver part is asinine.

I think the point is we took a tall WR in round 1 last year.  So it was essentially a double dip when there were other needs, better value and to their point, a position that could have been addressed later. Jayden Higgins is darn near a replica of T-Mac.

If you think Higgins is a near replica of T-Mac, you're going to be more than pleasantly surprised when you see him out there for us this year.

Just as if you think "we took a tall WR in round 1 last year" means XL and T-Mac are remotely close to the same player.  Basically the ONLY thing that is similar about the two of them is that they're both 6'3" or taller, after that, the comparisons stop, unless you count that they're both now Carolina Panthers.

Cool.  I hope he does well. It was just a thin draft overall from a value standpoint to have a top 10-15 pick, save 3-4 guys.  Maybe T-Mac shows proves he was worth a top 10 pick.  I just know I routinely read/heard from football talking heads that (outside of Hunter--a hybrid player) the top WR in this class would have been at least WR6 in last year's class.

Dead wrong.

If he had been in last year's class, he'd have been in contention with Odunze to be the 3rd WR taken after MHJ and Nabers.

Yes, I know Thomas Jr exploded for the best season of any of them and looks like a stud, but he was still picked in the 20's, and T-Mac would have gone before him.  Even if he didn't get taken before Odunze in the Top 10, he likely would have still gone Top 15 and be the next WR off the board.

Xavier is 6’1” and in the 48th percentile for height I wouldn’t call that “tall”

TMac in the 94th percentile

Sweet Jebus you're right, he is 6'1"

It's amazing how a guy can get measured at the combine at 6'1", but everyone still lists him at 6'3" and fans don't bother to go look at his combine measurement and think he's actually 6'3"

I won't lie, I've thought he was 6'3" this whole time, he's listed as such on the team site, espn, wikipedia, everywhere.  But also on his wikipedia page are his combine measurements where it lists him at 6'1", crazy.

I have no clue where this WR6 thing is coming from. ESPN rated him just below Odunze over BTJ at 4 and Brugler has him at WR3 in last class. There has to be some random site showing this that I’ve yet to see. It’s a weird point as you won’t see many Nabers and MHJs in draft classes. OSU does have one coming up in 2 years but he will be a top 5 easy.

6’1” with 9” hands which puts him in the 21st percentile which is concerning with his drop issue

TMac 10” hands 87th percentile

There’s always a few numbers I’m interested in seeing at the combine. (No the 40 isn’t one of them). WR’s I’m always interested in their hand size, true height (everyone always lies until it comes time for a true measurement) and 3 cone times

Was not expecting this pick at all. Great selection. I was thinking Walker from Georgia which I would’ve been ok with but he will never have the impact T-Mac will have out the gate. This kid will be a big help from day 1.

I'll say a bunch of people should ge happy. Looking like Jalon  Walker may need shoulder surgery this year. The last thing we need was an undersized edge player going under the knife to start his career. GO ATLANTA!!!

I like this post.

LOL

72 hours after the pick is made, on the 42nd page of this thread, and just a very simple, "I like this pick"... what a post, love it (and no, this isn't sarcasm, it's just a hilariously awesome post this deep into the thread haha)

6-1 without cleats, 6-3 with them. As far as I know, the combine is barefoot when measured and weighed. Means T-Mac plays at around 6-6 with cleats on.

    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
    • I can agree that he's not the same traditional tight end as say Warren but he's not that different from Loveland in a guy that plays more like a slot HVAC type row I don't think they're that much there He's probably not as good a route runner but with all that said none of them are the athlete that he is so it's kind of a watch there can I save for a fact that he's going to elite player probably not  You're asking for a wide receiver 3 and that's kind of what this would be in a way but accept bigger and just as explosive he's faster than all the guys that you would find at this point in the draft to feel a slot need and he's a red zone weapon with size verticality and such I think he's just a bigger mismatch than those guys you name Yes your banking on potential I think he's a bigger threat to make a play after the catch just based off strength size and just dog. I can't say I know what the Panthers look for in terms of arm length at the tight end position because we haven't drafted an elite first round tight end almost ever but if I'm looking at the way they have made their moves this offseason they drafted to where they don't have to reach it need and they've addressed most of those needs and this is one of the secondary needs that fit the draft range and if available there's a good chance that's a deep will be gone by time we pick I think you're blessed if he does fall to 19
