The Falcons had an awful pass rush.  They drafted Jaylon Walker and James Pearce Jr.  We have an awful pass rush, the worst defense in NFL history,  and the slowest offense in the NFL by a large margin and we take... TMac.  Make it make sense.  I am in no way for trading a first round pick but the Falcons knew who they really were and what they needed and addressed it while also getting great value on the draft board.  I hated our draft last year and I hate the way this one has started off.  If this draft doesn't make an immediate impact and show flashes of some potential true core players then Dan Morgan needs to be fired immediately after this upcoming season.  In my opinion he has no idea how to evaluate talent or build a team for the modern NFL.  Everything about the players he likes and the roles he tries to put them in are dated and scream early 2000s.

It took me a minute to get over the shock of the pick, but I agree.

before T-Mac, we had 4 WR on the roster. AT is going to hang it up at some point, and David Moore, though he had some success last year, I'm not sure is a quality NFL player.

What I like is, I've never seen us screen a pick the way we did. We always telegraph our picks. I also think this is a sign that David Tepper is getting out of the way.

As others have said, when your roster is in the shape ours is, you can't miss. T-Mac seems like the type of player that has a relatively high floor. The ceiling is obviously a Michael Thomas/Mike Evans type of player, which have terrorized us for years.

I do think the bulk of our draft will be spent on defense from this point on. That said, with only 5 WR, I could see a late round pick being another WR. A lot of TE projects in this draft as well.

I don't think so.  Pennix showed flashes that he may end up being a good qb and they didn't expect to be picking that high again.  If you need a qb and you really believe in one in the draft then you take them over anyone else.

Maybe a receiver that is quick or scares a db about getting behind them..

Im impressed at how they screened the pick. I think people here only really wanted Walker because it seemed inevitable it was going to happen.

This is a great pick and finishes our starting offense. Throw a few more bodies on the D and I think we have a pretty complete team coming into the season.

Falcon fans hate their draft and feel that they gave up way to much to get Pearce. the grass aint always greener.

I really could care less about the Falcons. I hate this idea that teams should draft to counter their division rivals. You build the best team possible; that's how you compete - with anyone.

I'm not 100% sold on T-Mac, but I wasn't any more sold on Jalon Walker or James Pearce or any of the defensive players either. The only player I thought we had a realistic shot at that I was 100% sold on was Mason Graham, but the board didn't fall that way. That's just the draft for you.

Falcons also have Drake London - we don't.  Make sense now?

I wouldn't have gave up a first either, but their pass rush is going to be better.   I can pretty much guarantee that.  We are still going to be a bad defense with the slowest offense.

Same here, even Bryce was involved but they managed to fool everyone

No?  Tmac isn't as good of a prospect as Drake London and London didn't do anything really until this past season.  I'm not sure off brand drake London is thr compliment you think it is.  Especially at pick 8 when you have a million ways you could go to improve the team

    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
    • I think people aren’t patient enough with Young. It can take a few years for a QB to develop. Look at Darnold, Baker and most recently Daniel Jones.   he hasn’t been able to put up big passing numbers either cause of how much we run the ball. You can tell our coaching staff still hasn’t took the training wheels off Bryce and let him go all out. We’ve had some pretty bad receivers as well. We finally got a true number one last year and look how much Bryce improved. Still we didn’t really have any depth behind TMac. Coker was hurt for a lot of the year and XL was our #2. How many big plays or TDs has XL dropped? I think this year can be the year we see Bryce able to hit his stride. If not then we can start looking for another qb but I just ask people to be patient.
