Gauging value of Panthers day 2 trades

I was very curious to see if we overpaid on either trade so I plugged all the numbers in the most commonly referenced draft value chart (https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp).

The numbers are below, but to summarize, both trades were very fair value. We overpaid the equivalent of pick 202 in our trade with Denver and actually got a slight value back with the Patriots equal to pick 210 but both of those are later 6th round picks. If you add them together, we overpaid by 3.2 points, or pick 219 which is the 3rd pick in the 7th round. Good to know we didn't do anything reckless. My work is below if you want to see the math.

Trade 1

Outgoing value:

57 - 330 pts

74 - 220 pts

111 - 72 pts

230 - 1 pt

Total: 623 pts

Incoming value:

51 - 390 pts

85 - 165 pts

122 - 50 pts

208 - 7.8 pts

Total: 612.8 pts

Difference: Loss of 10.2 pts (equal to pick 202 in 6th round)

Trade 2

Outgoing value:

85 - 165 pts

146 - 33 pts

Total: 198 pts

Incoming value:

77 - 205 pts

Difference: Gain of 7 points (equivalent of pick 210 in 6th round)

Total difference: 7 - 10.2 = loss of 3.2 points (equivalent of pick 219 in 7th round)

We'll see how the players turn out but the way this draft was handled feels much better than ... The last half decade or so.

I'm cool with both trades. Feels like we got good value. Now we have to wait and see if we got good players.

Yep, sometimes even when we seem to win, we find a way to lose.

Hope we finally have found the right formula.

    • His dead cap is stupid.  Moton will be here for a couple more years.  It's not like his play has dropped off.  yes we need to draft a backup, but not necessarily round 1.
    • I started laughing around paragraph three and the laughs kept coming. That man will never see success in his lifetime if someone sold him on all that BS.
    • 1) Marquise Brown (Shaheed might be a bit too expensive) 2) Probably isn't happening - can't afford to waste cap there. Just gotta roll with our TEs we have or draft one. Maybe Darren Waller if he has anything left. 3) Probably gonna be out of range for Reese and Styles, so no to drafting ILB round 1 if they are gone. Would be great if Woods, Faulk, or Terrell fell. Possible we take an OT also if they drop, especially if we move on from BC and with Moton on his last legs with us. 4) Not sure we have the money to get a high end pass rusher in free agency and would rather not burn more money on underachieving edges like Wonnum. Keep developing Scourton & Princely and draft an edge (ideally 1st round unless BPA other position is better) 5) Sure, but it would have to be a day 3 draft pick IMO (unless a really good one drops like Starks last year). Little out of FSU is somebody that fits Evero's scheme well (if he is back with us). I like what I see on tape out of Wheatley from Penn St, but I think he will shoot up draft boards after the combine. 6) Dalton needs to be cut the day after our last game of football this year... Not a great free agent crop of backup/fringe starter QBs that won't break the bank, but Mariota, Tyrod, or Zach Wilson are worth a look or start looking at day 3 trades for other team's backups (still would like Winston for a 6th rounder or similar value)
