Jadeveon Clowney upset about being released

Recommended Posts

“I got a sense then they wanted me out of the building,” Clowney said. “I was just like, ‘Y’all could’ve told me this back when I was coming in here during the offseason.’ I kind of had a sense, though. I’ve been around the game long enough to know, so I was OK.”

I wonder why he got a sense they wanted him out of the building…..it’s because of his sh*tty attitude. Go back and listen to him talking about our QBs leadership skills (to the media) when he was just signed to the team and hadn’t even had time to gel with his teammates (all players know you don’t say things like that to the media….you keep it in the locker room). History repeats itself. He’s a player who is decent, gets signed to a team, they get tired of his attitude, and he’s on to another team one year later

Not enough talent to overcome the drama, I suppose.

It ain't a talent issue. Dude's talent was off the charts. Just seems like he never had the drive to be great. Was always willing to just rest in his talent and settle for being good. He definitely COULD'VE been great.

from a football perspective I think releasing him was the wrong move

That being said Clowney has always seemed to have an attitude that rubs people the wrong way. I mean how many teams has he been on at this point?

My bet is that the Panthers actually didn't want him mentoring the young guys and now we have space to sign a FS. do not kill me gamecocks fans this has nothing do with your fine university

We'll see how that works out bc that edge room looks very very iffy

He's a rotational pass rusher on the worst defense in the NFL.  We're not missing much by letting him go.  Later dude.

Clowney's resume reads:

Hit a Michigan RB really hard that one time. Drafted #1 overall. Never had a double digit sack season. Started on the worst defense in NFL history. Oh, did I mention he got a Michigan RB really hard that one time?

He had big potential 10 years ago.  Now he's just an average NFL pass rusher with an attitude problem.

Exactly. He has made a literal multi contract career off of one hit, hope, and his God given measurables.

I was unaware of the idea he doesn't have a good attitude. I liked the idea of keeping the veteran aspect of the depth but if it wasn't a positive influence then that is different.

I am interested to see what they might do now.

    • I like what Freeling brings to the table all around. If he is willing to put in the work he has an opportunity to be one of the better Tackles in the league down the line. Hunter Brazzell and Hecht are all premium additions but development from our staff are the key to unlocking them. Hopefully Lee and Wheatley will provide much needed additional depth to our secondary. Beyond that it's important not to get too caught up in draft grades. Many drafts over the years that turned out to be really good were not fawned over with praise. While some that were ended up being historical duds. Panthers fans ought to know this as well as anyone. In conclusion...
    • Maybe a bit of a homer take but I can't give us a grade lower than A.   Freeling was arguably the best LT prospect in the draft.  His athletic ability is off the chart and at 6'7" that can move.  It was a no brainer pick.   Hunter's key word is Violence. Putting him next to Brown should scare an offensive coordinator. These two give Scourton and Phillips plenty of chances to get one on one opportunities. Brazzell, another tall receiver with sprinter speed.  Our WR room is filled with tall talented WR.  Brazzell is going to give us a WR that can take to roof off the defense.  Basically Jimmy Horn with size. W. Lee III has a nickname of the Blanket. (heard this on the Beleav podcast with J. Stewart)  What a great name.  A great value in the 5th round. Hecht A strong, fast and extremely smart center. Many had him listed as the best center in the draft.  He's most likely a starter sooner than later. Wheatley A good safety in round 5.  Someone who could see playing time.   Kuwatch  I love this pick.  At minimum he will be a key piece on special teams and with some good coaching he'll see some packages where he'll play.  His down piece is he doesn't stay up in the running game.  Good coaching will fix this.  He reminds me a bit of A.J. Klein.   All these picks were great value.  I believe everyone of them were graded higher than the pick we took them.   Dan Morgan is IMO doing a great job turning this team into a good team with great depth.
