We have a good DL, so maybe that alone will improve the LB play.  I think we have 3 decent LBs--low end starters in Rozeboom, Wallace, and Cherelus and Windmon played well in short duty last year.  I also think we have 2 UDFAs who could make it---Possibly not as thin as we think.

I will say that we all basically knew the roster was extremely thin(has been for years).

Inevitably, offseason injuries were bound to happen. It just kind of is what it is. Some guys we need to evaluate for next offseason will get some burn and hopefully we will make another small step forward with the roster for 2026.

Seems like teams are giving the RB treatment to LBs. Rams gave away a great young LB last year-

" Los Angeles Rams traded their starting linebacker, Ernest Jones IV, to the Tennessee Titans. The Rams received a 2026 fifth-round draft pick in exchange for Jones and a 2026 sixth-round pick. Jones was in the final year of his rookie contract and was seeking an extension, but the Rams were unable to agree on a deal, leading to the trade. "

Titans traded him to the Seahawks, rams rival and I think they ended up re-signing him.

Evero came from there and mimics many of the same beliefs. I've said this too many times, you can not pay everyone. Panthers signed the Rams top tackler for near vet min....

DL can help cover up LBs weakness, but this is one huge cover-up....

Still, Jewell was the top dog holding this group above water. Now Panthers need a surprise hero from the group you listed.

Prepare thyself, incoming threads about any LBs are in bound.

This team has been its best with dominate ILBs--

They also been inconsistent and overall losing record, I think before tepper bought the team.

iggles signed zack baun to 3.5 million one year before he became All-world this past season.

Besides this isn't the free agency period, there's no help out there to spend millions on. Even the trade market is buns.

Omar Speights was a UDFA LB that got 500 snaps last year, he played for the Rams fyi...

Panthers now have the worst LB group in the NFL, I now clearly think that.

One team to look for- Pats

Believe it or not, they have a deep LB unit and new coaching staff vrabel.

Vrabel signed a few LBs and runs a different system.

ja'whaun bentley is deserves a good long look at. He torn a pec week 2 2024.

This is the best answer- ja'whaun bentley

Jags are another team

Jags did not pick up lloyds 5th year option and he's played great.

Muma was Panthers 3rd sent in the CJ Henderson trade, he's deep on the bench.

They have others too.

I still say ja'whaun bentley is the best option for FA, he's fully healthy too. Former captain and only 29 and fresh from the break in action. He shouldn't be pricey either, he was set to make 4.25mill. Much less than that is Ava...

I’m not laughing at him still having concussion related symptoms, because that’s awful of course.

But I was one of the most vocal anti-Walker people on here leading into the draft.  And while I’d obviously have still gone with T-Mac, had I known this would happen, I’d have been MUCH more on board with taking Walker to be an ILB who gets used as a situational pass rusher as well.

Even had we known them I still suspect T-Mac would've been the lick given Walker's own lingering injury issue.

The guy will never be a real off ball inside backer. Undersized 3-4 edge who sometimes rushes from the middle of the defense. Tenacious player, probably going to be a solid pass rusher who gives up some in the run game. I like him, but it’s what he is.

    • True, but on the flip side we didn’t know if TMac would be there at 8. You gotta roll with guesses at some point and then adapt as things change. Let’s see what Morgan does
    • I don't think he did it to spite Bryce. Seems like Bryce is a truly decent guy that virtually everyone likes. I do think Frank likely preferred Stroud and was either was led to believe or deluded himself into thinking that he would have a lot more say in the direction we went at QB in the draft. Once we decided on Bryce knowing Bryce didn't fit his system and preferences in a QB it really seemed like the wind went out of Frank's sails and he basically started mailing it in and just waited to get fired and paid out. Maybe I'm misreading the whole situation but that's certainly the way it looked to me from the outside looking in.
    • Again, it may have nothing to do with Bryce Young. The coaches are thinking about the whole roster. Many guys have said how much different this off-season has been not having to start from square 1 with a playbook, language, etc. You’re talking about bringing in a guy to lead the 2nd team offense who they now have to spend time teaching. Every team is different. This team is young and developing across the board and trying to find some positive continuity. With how Morgan and Canales have approached everything I’m fairly certain they considered all possibilities and decided it was best for the overall team to roll with Dalton for now. They value whatever it is they feel Dalton brings over the extremely low probability of whatever washed out, journey man, reclamation project developing into a franchise QB. You and I have no idea why and aren’t there in the meetings, but it’s clear that the FO sees this young failed franchise QB project as less likely to pan out than you do.
