I am not at all excited nor am I dreading anything. I just have extremely low expectations so I am just waiting to see what this revision of the roster looks like. 

I FEEL like we are better on paper than last season's team but I wouldn't be remotely shocked if we were as bad or worse. Again, I do think this is the 2nd worst roster in franchise history overall.

What will really make me happy is for some of the big questions to finally be answered(Bryce, Ikey, Horn, etc). I would like to see a real expansion of our core player pool(basically just D. Brown currently). I want to see a couple of hits in free agency and a couple in the draft. If we accomplish those things, I have faith that we are at least moving in the right direction after many, many years doing the opposite.

 

TMac is my biggest question. Is he going to be our Justin Jefferson or is he going to be Michael Pittman. We need JJ, we can’t survive Pittman. We can’t basically throw away another top 10 pick on average. At some point we can’t keep drafting Iky, Horn (if he stays injury prone), Young, trade #1 overall and maybe TMac. XL wasn’t top 10, but he was also a recent 1st rounder.

Our most talented draft pick since Brown (who went 1 pick after Herbert), is a bit disappointing because he’s missed so much time and we didn’t get to savor a rookie deal. Last two SBs were in part due to drafting Peppers/Gross and Cam/Luke with back to back top 2 and then top 10 picks. We had two top 2 picks and got Young instead of say Jalen Carter and Williams or Daniels. At our talent level, TMac has to be our JJ or Mike Evans or else we will tread water at 5 wins again.

Son, I am still sharing content and being excited about the team. You're the one pissing your britches over getting a poo reaction on an old message board.

Though I do appreciate the well wishes for my family. Good luck to you trying to tell everybody when they're allowed to be excited about Panthers football or when it's appropriate to poo react someone.

Oh yeah, I 100% agree. The bad drafts are what digs the hole deeper and deeper every offseason. It took a lot of work to get down to where we are. Amazing really.

I still say that Fitterer’s trades/non-trades and drafting were borderline sabotage. Once could look at what we did and feel like he was an undercover spy for us starting to unravel their solid team in 2015.

Is Pittman a disappointment or is it that the Colts have had 12 starting QBs during his five years, none of them good? Despite that he's averaging about a 1000 yards per season over the past four years. Give the guy a QB and he might actually be something.

What I meant was Pittman is OK. Getting over 1100 yards took him 156 targets and that was his best year. JJ made Darnold look like a HOFer. JJ with Darnold had 2 less targets than Pittman yet he had over 1500 yards and 10 TDs. Mike Evans didn’t skip a beat with Winston or Mayfield.

At pick 8, Michael Pittman results is not enough. Robbie Anderson had almost 1100 yards as WR2 with Teddy. If TMac is just Pittman, he’s a big disappointment. We need a top WR not a yardage accumulator due to large target numbers.

Would I be happy with Pittman over Mingo or TMJ, absolutely, but I brought him up as a just OK WR that isn’t what we need out of TMac. Pick 8 being Pittman is a disappointment. As I said, until we start pulling actual healthy stud, top 5 at their position or even top 10 guys with our first rounders, which have been top 10 picks for 6 years, we will stay bottom feeders. The two we did have missed 3 years of games out of 9 total years.

Let me set your mind at ease then, T-Mac is that guy you've been wanting, he's going to be a stud Top 10 WR who is in the discussion as a Top 5 guy during his prime.

I'll also make this prediction, as a rookie, T-Mac will have more TDs than Pittman has had in any season in his career.  He's had 6, 4 twice, 3, and 1 TD in his 5 seasons, I think T-Mac makes a serious push for 10 as a rookie, he's going to be a redzone monster with his size and hands.

I see this type of sentiment often, especially in regards to Bryce.

But for the life of me, I cannot find anywhere that lists the expected statistical performances for each draft pick to be considered "worth it." I can find trade values, I can find contract values, and I can even find data that shows the chances of success for different positions taken at different times during the draft.

But I cannot find anything that states what a player should put up at the very least to be considered worth the selection.

Which also begs the question... if a player was traded up for, does the value of those picks given and the supposed statistical baseline added to where they were drafted? For example, if Chicago had drafted Bryce and his career arc was identical without trading the pick away, is there now a lower baseline for him to have to hit? Does Bryce have to do more than Cam because Cam wasn't traded up for?

I'm sure folks can point at recent stat lines and say "Better than that!" but when I've had this same convo in the past it turns into less stable fans getting nasty when they realize that there isn't really a statistical baseline that they're pounding the table for.
