If we're as concerned about that knee as rumors made it out then I would've definitely wanted to see how it held up this year before giving him a bunch of new money.

I mean, there were retirement rumors this off-season due to that knee.

Keyword rumor. Do you think they were concerned his knee was at retirement levels and then decided to give him 40M anyways?

Moton has looked as consistent as a RT could look for years now. When you perform and you are a good locker room guy you get paid. That is it no more. He hasn't even started to show decline. He hasn't had issues missing games or shown drop off in mobility with the knee yet. You fellas are gonna need some therapy for that Hurney PTSD.

Typical Panthers move

Moton is aging, has a knee with issues and the NFL is unforgiving to that situation

why tie the money up in that  situation?

thought they were done with that model and or ‘kicking the  can down the road’ with restructures

morgan is from the fitterer school of gm'ing.  He talks the talk but doesnt walk the walk.   This is about as insane as giving cmac that huge deal after year 3.   It is 100% completely unnecessary.

I don't know how anybody can be upset with this. He's been our most consistent OL starter for years.

I'm all for paying the OL. I don't remember where I saw it, but Robert Hunt was talking about this is the first time he's ever had the full o-line come back from the prior year. This is huge for continuity.

IDK about upset. It's a little perplexing given that the rumors are his knees aren't in great shape. One has to assume the team knows different. Especially for that chunk o cash.

If he's healthy, glad to have him back.

Andrew Whitworth's last contract with the Rams was a three-year deal signed on March 18, 2020, worth $30 million with up to $37.5 million available, which made it the highest-paying contract for a non-quarterback over 35 in NFL history at the time. This deal kept the veteran left tackle with Los Angeles for his final seasons before his eventual retirement.

Read it and weep. I swear sometimes you want the sky to fall so bad so you can say typical Panthers, we are the only ones to ever do this or that, you forget obvious examples illustrating the obtuse nature of your statements!

Yall are a trip,

Offensive tackles aren't ancient at 31, in fact a 2 year deal for a 31 year old tackle its perfect lol.

Dude is still a top third tackle.

I think the confusion revolves around the rumors his knees were in bad shape. If that IS the case, this is a bad idea because he very well could be close to the end of his career.

If that is all BS and he isn't having chronic issues, it's great to have our best OL since Kalil retired back.

    • It's honestly pretty interesting just seeing this pairing play out. Canales’ offenses (Seattle, Tampa) are run-first, under-center, play-action systems built around defined reads and intermediate/deep timing throws. That structure worked when he had QBs like Baker Mayfield or Russell Wilson in a system that created clear launch points and sightlines. His success has always been tied to a credible run game + play-action gravity. You can see that with the Panthers team building philosophy as well. Coker and TMac both are bigger receivers that won't get the best YAC production but thrive as possession receivers in contested scenarios. They're not the best in space and creating additional yardage in such, and would likely fair better systematically with a stronger armed QB who can create better opportunities on those boundary 1v1 matchups with stronger throws. Bryce, on the other hand, is a spread-native QB. His strengths are rhythm, spacing, quick processing, and off-script creation. Asking him to live in condensed formations with long-developing play-action concepts just hasn't been his forte. And well, his boundary throws are limited in velocity which takes a big chunk of the playbook off. And I mean a QB like Bryce can still work, it's just Dave's offensive philosophy and foundation is very much at odds with Young's physical limits and his own experience. So it's certainly still a learning experience for Dave to figure out how he can mesh his offensive philosophy with Young's strengths. He's very inexperienced with maximizing Bryce's strengths with his system. Would love to see us bring in an OC with spread experience and adaptability to implement a cohesive system with Dave to allow Bryce to thrive, as it's obvious we're sticking with him for a bit longer.
    • Only thing I really agreed with is questioning why we didn’t take any timeouts on their last drive.  I know hindsight is 20/20, but I think it would’ve saved clock bc they were desperate to score as soon as the opportunity presented itself, but I also think it could’ve helped the defense regroup and maybe give us a better chance to stop them.
