Canales vs Ejiro

Listening to the to presser, sounds like there is some tension between HC and DC.

Reporter asked the question (paraphrasing) "The staff pride themselves on being a developmental staff and we see lots of young players playing on offense, yet we don't see that on the defense?"

Canales "Yeah I would like to see that too"............

This will be a very interesting dynamic to keep an eye on. Canales has been more than generous keeping Evero from the previous regime and also keeping him after a historically bad defense last season. Evero is not really Canales guy, nor GM Dan Morgans. He will certainly be handed a pink slip if things don't change this season and it might be before Thanksgiving.

Yeah, Dave sounded salty when asked about something to do with the defense later too, and one of the reporters said something about what did EE say to him, and Dave very dryly said, “we just had some great conversations.”

and when followed up about the playing young guys, he said, we as a staff have to get these young guys out there.

i think, unless the defense picks it up dramatically over the next 3 games, EE is probably gone by midseason.

It's called the hot potato game of blame. No excuses including more time so it has to fall somewhere first. I bet it's getting spicy in that building already.

Sadly this will probably be more entertaining than the games much like in '23.

Maybe he can't do anything about him because he's a Tepper hire?

Should come out pretty soon with those kinds of performances. I have wondered why he was brought back this year so that will be good to finally put to rest. No way he makes it far this season.

I'll go with the young guys and let them make some rookie mistakes vs invisible & ineffective too

(might be before Thanksgiving.)  We can only hope. He can take worthless Nick Scott with him.

I don't think Canales was doing Evero a solid.  The Carolina front office wouldn't let Evero go.   Which was always weird.   Someone at BOA hasn't been letting head coaches be in total power.  Frank wasn't.  Canales doesn't appear to be

    • He threw with him the last two offseasons so he knew what he was signing up for lol
    • The meat and potatoes: Out of 30 qualifying QBs in Week 1, Young ranked: Dead last in EPA (-0.60) Dead last in success rate (20%) Dead last in Y/A at 3.6 Dead last in passer rating at 27.5 How are you averaging just 3.6 Y/A on unpressured dropbacks in the first half of a game? Thinking back to that halftime deficit, I’m reminded of this stat: The Panthers led at halftime in three of Young’s 12 starts last year. They are now 0 for 1 this year. In his 29 career starts, the Panthers have led at halftime in 5 of 29 (17%). Since 2000, there have been 37 QBs to start at least 25 games in their first two years in the NFL. Young is the ONLY QB to lead at halftime in fewer than six of his starts. Young is the ONLY QB to lead at halftime in fewer than 20% of his starts. So many people were backing Young based on the super small sample at the end of the year when they thought he played better, and he did play moderately better. But even in those games, he delivered average stats against the NFL’s easiest schedule of pass defenses to close the year, with every opponent ranking 20th or worse. There’s never been a QB who rebounded from performance like Young delivered in his first couple of years to go on to become a franchise quarterback. Some stay around as a journeyman, but they don’t lead teams. The Panthers put all their eggs in the Young basket this offseason. The Panthers were the darlings to win the NFC South by many. Yes, it’s only one game, and there certainly are opportunities to improve.   The opportunity is to start someone else at QB.   I don’t want to see anymore debate in whether Bryce is the worst QB ever.  Especially not the worst #1 overall pick ever.  What a fuging bust.
