You see, this is why I'm more critical of Dave Canales

Evero was literally the hottest name at the time for DC but Canales probably doesn’t have a tie in for his own DC.

If Evero is fired it’s probably gonna be an open spot as opposed to someone that Dave has worked with.

And our senior citizen O and D advisors?  Canales was just overly impressed with the Game of Thrones poo show he just had to have them too?

nothing has ever smelled right about the transition. It really just feels like the Frank era to the Dave era was largely a glorified OC change and little else

Canales isn't great, but I think he's doing some work with our non-XL receivers.

I do think Bryce limits him but he also gets into moments of idiot playcalling where he seems to forget his QB is smaller than he is and has to heave any ball beyond 10 yards half the time.

Hunter cut was 100% about David Moore getting a spot.  No one was going to snatch up Moore.  Then AT bailed.

Canales’ little lie has been exposed.   He cut Hunter because he wasn’t in shape somehow out of left held …..yet Hunter automatically out there carrying a huge load the minute Theilen burned them.   It was never about the best player making the roster.    Canales wanted Moore to have the spot.

I really don’t think Dave is allowed to pick his defensive staff

I think some of y'all are just trying to rationalize his fúcked up decisions, but I could be wrong. I don't think I am, but I could be. Everything seems kind of murky, but I still say Canales is responsible.

https://www.panthers.com/news/notebook-ejiro-evero-to-return-as-defensive-coordinator?hl=en-US

"There was obviously criticism, but Panthers head coach Dave Canales never wavered.

"So even after a rough season for a defense in a constant state of personnel flux, Canales knew who he wanted calling the plays for him on that side of the ball — defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero."

Canales is the culprit in my eyes.

"I've played against this defense, I've played against it in Seattle with the Rams for a bunch of years, I played against it twice last year," Canales said. "I know what this defense will look like, and I'm committed to that. Ejiro's committed to that, so it's about developing the players that we've brought in and evaluating our schemes. So we have to be able to look at our schemes and be really critical of all those things as well."

Jim Caldwell was a decision maker in Morgan and Canales happening.   It’s like we suddenly forgot all the Game of Thrones reporting and the fact a massive % of the Frank era never left the building.

I'm critical of Dave Canales and his decision making. I don't believe that he's been a very good coach. It was pointed out to me in another thread that he can only do so much with Bryce. That may be true, but Canales isn't doing his players any favors either. Apparently he seems to think that these guys on offense are mix and match---plug and play. He doesn't seem to fully understand the concept of putting guys in the best position to succeed. I cringe when we are in short yardage, but don't have Chuba in the game. I mean, everyone knows we aren't going to QB-sneak it which puts the runner already at a disadvantage, so why not use your power guy. Hell, I suspect Etienne has more power than Rico Dowdle.  Anyway...

I'm glad that I ain't the only one that thinks DC is just misusing personnel. Tim Donnelly speaks to some of the things I've been thinking, and he's as frustrated as I am with the way that some of our players are being used.

He starts by saying, in so many words, to not be fooled by fool's gold. But he basically goes into the fact that DC isn't doing his damned job.

*Sigh*

without the panthers havinf a hall of fame rb no coach can win with byoung.  not sure if its in the video or another ome but he read off the stats for young when panthers were within one score over the first 2 games was like 9 19 70 yards 0 tds several fumbles and ints just really awful.

I think Canales caught lightning in a bottle for his success with Geno Smith and Bayer Mayfield. I actually think the Qbs carried him a little, look at those QBs now who are still playing at a decent level without him. I think Canales only got the job because he is buddy buddy with Dan Morgan. Canales is still very raw as a HC, he was an OC for only one season and we hired him based on his success with Baker and Geno.

The team just looks so unprepared each and every week and that falls on the HC for poor preparation. I think he is a good OC, but that's about it.
